The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
One of the best tv episodes ever
The only thing this episode had to do to progress the story was to give Joel and Ellie a car, something that we get in the game by running around a town, killing infected with the crazy doomsday prepper Bill. And while that was fun to play, it was kind of shallow.
So this was a fantastic deviation from the source material. Instead of a shallow, mean and easily brushed aside plotline with Frank and Bill, we got a beautiful and bittersweet love story. A story of hope persevering in a otherwise hopeless world. We got to see how a man who hated the world, could change his ways and learn to care about someone. A man who found his purpose. We got to live a lifetime in one hour and fifteen minutes.
Ending this episode with that letter was also fantastic storytelling. Joel reading Bill's words about how his worldview changed after finding someone he cared about functions as a catalyst for him deciding to continue helping Ellie. And in the future learning to love and care for her as his own daughter.
This was a profoundly impactful episode, not only for us viewers, although I will admit that it left me ugly crying, but also for the characters and their emotional journeys!
A League of Their Own: Find the Gap (2022)
Made me smile!
Now don't get me wrong, watch these women go though hardship makes me frown, but it makes for an interesting and relatable story. This episode further develops the characters and hints at future storylines I will follow with interest! And, spoilers warning, this is only the second episode but we've already had two on screen wlw kisses, which is just fantastic!
A League of Their Own: Batter Up (2022)
Nice introduction to a fantastic cast of characters!
This first episode sets up the story and the themes it will be dealing with quite nicely! A bit fast paced maybe, but I'm sure the rest of the episodes will add more depth to all of the characters.
