Unforgotten: Episode #5.6 (2023)
Politics enters the series.. won't be watching again..
Let me say, I don't mind the Nicola's replacement. Sunny is as always good. What I have a problem with is the unsympathetic characters, the political message, the all white people are privilege rubbish. We now all know the political leanings of the writers. Evil Tory minister, of course ..smh.
Bele is the most irritating, abusive, always the victim.. character on TV. Her speech to the ministers wife was just cringeworthy. She's abusive to her husband and thinks she's still the victim.
The rest are no better. Constant excuses for their behaviour are put down to colour, ancestors.. bla bla bla.
Won't be watching again, I have no interest in irritating political forcefed messages.
The Lair (2022)
Shame about the lead's acting
I watched this because it's a Neil Marshall film and he after all brought us Descent!!
Sadly, what could have been a great movie, was let down by the lead actress's lack of acting skills. Which is a real shame as the others weren't so bad.
I persevered because well I expected her to be removed through some fortunate mishap, but unfortunately she was here to stay..
The storyline really wasn't too bad, the writing basic (and the jokes trite) but unfortunately what could have been at least good was let down by a poor choice in lead. Not sure what happened here with such poor casting, especially from the man who brought us Descent!!
Nope (2022)
Boring ..
Not even Keith David (who dies in the first 10mins btw) is worth the agony of this film.
I'm thinking those that have rated this high are part of the crew. I love sci-fi, horror, mystery, etc so it takes a lot for me to be bored out of my mind and give up watching.. This film is not worth 10mins of your time, forget 2hrs.
Over hyped boring rubbish, in my humble opinion considering the turds Jordan Peele creates, he is just as over hyped as this piece of crap. 'Us' was just as bad, just because your cast is mostly black, doesn't mean you ignore the fact that your audience needs to be entertained..!! I feel the cast were let down tremendously by the rubbish director and story here.
The Midwich Cuckoos (2022)
Oh for the love of a good show..
This could have been so good. Two good leads.. small British town.. suspense.. instead it's forgotten what makes a good small town mystery is .. a small town ..
So much focus has gone into a diverse cast.. we have mixed race couples, people of colour, that's not representative of a small British town.. it's started off so well.. the mixed race couple looking for small town life. Then it became more like London with its diversity. I should know I'm a person of colour who moved from a small town, where we were the only Asian family, into London.. it's distracting and annoying. It loses its authenticity. If you wanted to ram diversity form our throats why not set it in London..?
Then there's the fact that the acting is mediocre, apart from Keeley and Max.. the lady from the home office seriously looked out of her depth. She had one expression only.
All in all blah..
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Argh
So many have stated so much of what is wrong with this series already in other reviews. The only saving grace is the acting of Ewan, it was good to see Indira Varma and Jimmy Smit again.
The story is ok but the challenge is they've placed someone with very little acting ability and no character as what appears to be a main foe for Obi. I'm sorry (and I am because if the stories of the online abuse are true, I'd have liked to have liked her in the role) but she can't act and doesn't have the charisma or character to carry the role off. She comes off as a very wooden individual trying too hard. And as awful as it seems, I can't help but think an experienced charismatic actor could have made this a better viewing experience.
Whenever I see her on screen I find myself cringing and groaning. I feel a kind honest soul needs to gently tell Moses to hone her acting skill a little more away from big series like this, before her next major role.
I hope somehow the last few episodes improve but think I'll be disappointed.
Snowpiercer (2020)
Bored
As others have said the main male lead can't act. You then have him up against talented actors and he's then even worse. He has no presence no character and can't act.. it doesn't get any worse..
I admit I got bored when Jennifer Connelly was 'killed off', a main character with no presence who can't act, taking up most of the screen time is just .. boring .. even Sean Bean can't save it.. it's boring.. it's torture..
I've now seen spoilers that Connelly is back, I hope the producers and directors kill off the main guy and let a talented actor take the lead.. hint hint Connelly..
It's a shame as the rest of the cast and cgi are all good or at least tolerable but .. the main guy can't act.. darn it!!
American Horror Story: Inside (2021)
Better..
My comment is based on the acting, considering bad acting can kill the best of scripts, it's great to see some actors who can act.. I liked the new direction, it takes away from the usual recycled scripts that AHS does. It's just a shame as I felt last weeks episode was let down by bad acting, not all models can act.. instead why not give chances to unknown young aspiring actors who can act..? I just feel let down by a series that all but shoves the fact that differences are good, chances to be and do better are great .. then turns around and doesn't give chances to those who don't have their faces plastered all over magazines or have parents with contacts. Why not support unknowns?
Slasher: Kindred (2021)
Much better but weird ending
This season was much better, the pc nonsense was absent. Diversity was put in but at a much more streamlined way. The story itself was interesting but felt the ending let it down. Although considering I was glued to the screen with each episode, it's much more nicer to see characters who are lesbian, gay, bisexual etc living normal lives. Not every person who's not white and/or heterosexual is messed up, bullied or out for revenge because of life's challenges..
Now if only the writers can keep it going but stop with the lazy ending.. and bring back Corteon Moore .. loved his character in this, as an actor he definitely has presence.
Helstrom (2020)
And another good series with potential bites the dust
Brother and sister and the fight to be good and hunt bad.. This series had so much potential. It had the ability to create a great story about good and evil and how mixed up it truly is.. and then.. cancelled.. people aren't watching shows because they don't want to invest time in series that then abruptly get cancelled on cliffhangers.. I don't understand how rubbish gets renewed year after year but not something different and interesting.. another channel many others and myself will be avoiding now.
Clarice: You Can't Rule Me (2021)
Victims victims ..
Ok so I do like this show, I like the actors, think the woman playing Clarice managed to find that certain something, that appeals.
I liked the woman playing her roommate, she could act, there was again something that fit about her character.
So.. why oh why.. bring BLM agenda to it? Make her a victim..? There is no need, not to mention in the 90s BLM wasn't bandied around. Why make Clarice apologise for the pigment of her skin?? Are all people of colour now victims of the system..?? Should I now go around claiming I need an apology from all white people..?? This need to include BLM politics into shows if anything turns people off and is insulting to those actors of colour who can act and are doing a great job without it. If this carries on people will assume that the person of colour is there because of the colour of their skin as opposed to ability. Which is such a shame, as all the individuals in this show can act.. so for the love of God, leave out the lectures of racism and privilege and let the actors abilities speak for themselves..!!
I stopped watching another show because of this nonsense, don't make me stop with this one..
Supernatural: Carry On (2020)
Fitting ending
The ending to me seemed fitting. Don't get me wrong as a fan from day one of the show, I'd have preferred they'd carried on until I was old and decrepit..!!
Sam had always wanted a normal life, he got it (he'd have never got it if Dean lived, it was also what Dean wanted for him) and Dean could never have imagined a life without his family, without Sam, so while Dean took the long road in heaven, Sam got to live his 'normal' life without Dean suffering.
Those that feel Dean's ending sucked, Dean was a Hunter, he got a hunter's death, that would have most likely happened without all the interference from others. He got a decent last day on earth, pie, a dog, etc.. 😁 It's also fitting that the first person he met in Heaven was Bobby.
Only thing that could have worked better, is to show them meeting Mary and John at the end 😁
Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
A great example of how to kill a show
Pc - tick, woke - tick and all to the detriment of the story line. The story is non-existant.. apart from where here to help people .. right okay.. what makes this worse is.. we had a range of cast at the beginning with an excellent storyline and all I noticed..? The story and great characters.. that's what I should have done.. now all I notice is the woke pc rubbish because I have no story or character building to focus on..
The Predator (2018)
Extremely disappointing..
I loved the original and wanted to see more of it.. well.. not with like this codswallop.. Olivia Munn is seriously miscast, her sudden ability to fight predators is laughable .. the story is ridiculous and makes little sense.. the predators are not scary at all.. they've suddenly become secondary to super humans.. total rubbish..!!
Us (2019)
Boring, Slow and lacks even a little atmosphere
I remember when this film first came out, everyone was raving about it .. I finally got around to watching it.
I really really wanted to like this film. I wanted to support the fact that it has a predominantly black cast and for all the right reasons.. instead I find my mind wandering throughout the film, couldn't get into it at all and had to force myself to watch it..
The male lead character was so laidback it was like he was just reading his lines because he had to. The female lead was slightly better but not enough to carry the film.
The storyline is so ludicrous but even that was ruined even more at the ending. There's a section where the family is tallying up their kills, even that's stupid..
I think without the OTT reception to the fact that this is a predominantly black cast, during a time where everyone is focused on colour.. this wouldn't have made it past a rating of 5. It came across more like a B Film, which is a shame as I wanted to like it.l, but .... it's just boring and instantly forgettable.
Stranger Things (2016)
Great show that is very atmospheric
I liked all 3 seasons of the show, admittedly watching season 3 I worried we'd suddenly get some kind of pc rubbish interfering with the story line (seems to be happening with a lot of shows recently!).
However, the inclusiveness in two areas was done so well, it didn't feel like the writers were ramming it down your throat. (Perhaps they should give pointers to a few others out there!) I'm by no means against diversity of any kind, but when it's done to the detriment of the writing it does no favour to the actors involved or the show itself. If it had gone down the pc road, I'd not be looking forward to season 4😊
This season continued the story line from seasons 1 and 2 well, the humour was well done and a welcome addition, without it I feel the season would have been a drag. Love love love love Hopper, to me he makes the show. The children turning into teens, was amusing and reminded me of my teens (I am after all a child of the 80s!)
Scream (2015)
Here we go again.. Season 3 downhill already..
A lot of tv shows of this type, appear to be removing good story lines to tick the 'politically correct' boxes. They are now all mingling into the same show.
Within the first 20mins we've ticked the oppressed 'black people' box, the gay bff who's much maligned, etc. Let the lecture and pc rubbish begin....
I wish the writers would get off their soapboxes and understand the difference between inclusiveness and pc rubbish. Go talk to the writers in Stranger Things. They managed to include diversity without ramming it down our throats.
I want to view great characters who just happen to be people of colour, gay, etc. I don't want to watch a program that rams it down my throat for the sake of it.. won't be watching..
