Spotlight (2015)
Compelling, Chilling and Cold-Hard Truth.
As a Roman Catholic who attends mass weekly I thought I knew all about the child abuse scandal within the RC' Church and well after watching 'Spotlight' it is certainly safe to say I didn't know the half of it.
This fantastically compelling, yet chilling, title has really opened my eyes and educated me on the investigation that the journalists of the Boston Globe's Spotlight Team carried out between 2001 & 2002. Putting the fantastic script and acting aside, my credit goes to the real life journalists. The emotional side effects this investigation would have caused them is hard to think about, but exposing the truth must have been very worthwhile.
Watching the film I found it hard at first to understand how this could happen and how a priest could abuse a child within a parish. But the film follows the investigation very carefully and answered every question going around in my head at the time of watching it and revealed everything I wanted to know and more.
I don't want to give away too much in my review, but I will say this. If you are like me and think that you know what had happened in the child abuse scandal I would urge you to think again and watch this film. That's all I will say.
With regards to the actual film? Well its fantastic. The camera work, the acting, the script...everything about this film is compelling and is sure to glue your eyes to that TV screen (or what ever device you happen to watch on). In the end I am happy that I took the time to watch this, it was very informative and has educated me greatly on the situation and made me think about a lot of things, not regarding my faith, it is still as strong as ever, but regarding the Roman Catholic Church and its hierarchy etc.
Anyway, I'm going to stop talking, give it a watch, be informed and enjoy every minute of this chilling, compelling and informative thriller/drama. 10/10
Shot Caller (2017)
Very Good Prison Movie, You Wont Be Disappointed.
Great Movie, Great Storyline, Great Acting. You will find yourself somewhat glued to the screen, so give it a try and you wont be disappointed, I promise. Its no Shawshank Redemption, but its up there with some of the best prison movies I've watched. Credit to the acting team and the director. Enjoy.
Snowden (2016)
A compelling watch that left me wanting more and more.
Well, I'm surprised. When I went to watch 'Snowden' I cant say I was expecting much, I expected it to be average at most, boy was I wrong. From the very first scene I found myself glued to the screen with vast amounts of interesting information, facts and fantastic acting and story line all spilling out at once.
Some reviews I had read beforehand seemed to state that the title was a little slow moving in parts, I cannot say I agree at all. I think, personally, if you commit yourself to the film and set all electronics and distractions aside, which I do, then you will not be able to take your eyes of the screen. There is no unnecessary scenes as such, each one has reason behind it and valuable information to keep your interest for the entire two hour running time. Its hard to believe some of the software that the NSA, CIA etc have at their fingertips and its hard to believe that this movie is based of solid facts. Some scenes will leave you in shock, trust me on that one.
As for the acting? Oscar Worthy. I find the actors get into character very very well and all credit to the star of the show, Joesph Gordon-Levitt, he does a fantastic job playing Snowden.
To summarise, this was a fantastic movie, one of the best I have watched in a long time and I certainly recommend it to those who have interest in current affairs and politics etc. Now this doesn't mean its a 'strictly political film', because its not. There is a fine balance between politics, drama and pure thrillerness, excuse my made up word lol.
Whether or not you believe what Snowden done was Patriotic or whether you believe he is a traitor is entirely up to you. Me? Well I think the guy has a huge set of B***s to do what he done. But don't let your personal opinion get in the way of you watching this title, because trust me its worth watching. Enjoy!
The Accountant (2016)
Decent Watch, Give it a go certainly.
I found 'The Accountant', as I have stated above, decent at most. The movie starts with some decent action, then it goes into a little drama, of which I found a little slow moving. The action scenes are all fantastic. The special effects, props, acting..all great, however I just feel the drama scenes in the storyline dragged on a little, just a little. All and all a decent watch and you certainly wont be disappointing with this title, but you will not be blown away either. Enjoy! :)
Going in Style (2017)
Star-Studded Cast and Straight Forward Comedy.
What do you think of when you see the names Morgan Freeman, Michael Cain and Alan Arkin? Aside from thinking "Ellis 'Red' Reddig", "Harry Brown" and "Grandpa Edwin Hoover"? You think, "This is going to be a good one". And well, your right.
"Going in Style" is a great watch, it's not the greatest comedy I've ever seen but it's stars and gags do it justice. If your looking for a straight up comedy with good laughs and a good cast then look no further, you won't be disappointed.
