The Great North (2021)
It's ok.
Fox's new animated series "the great north" relies more on its big stars (Nick Offerman, Jenny Slate, Will Forte) and it's loud visuals more than clever comedy. It does land a few times and it shows potential, I do like the cast a lot even though they're not utilized as well as they could, it's not a good start but it seems it could get better.
Call Me Kat (2021)
Fox flies high with an American adaptation of the Brit sitcom classic, Miranda. It fails.
I'm going to be reviewing more of the new tv shows today and it all starts with call me Kat. The american remake of the great British comedy Miranda. From the episodes and clips I've seen from Miranda. It's super funny and the reasons it work is the charismatic and quirky star Miranda Hart along with her brilliant writing. Unfortunately, that can't be replicated in American form. Its star, Mayim Bialik (blossom, the Big Bang theory) is charismatic and ok in the lead titular role. But everything else from its tired writing from Darlene Hunt who's charm in her writing in episodes of the goldbergs among others comes off stale here and I didn't even chuckle once. It's supporting cast has proven talented elsewhere but here they come off as very dull and annoying. I'll stick with this show and see if it's only a poor pilot and it gets better. We'll see...
YOLO: Crystal Fantasy: Bush Doof (2020)
Intrigued.
I watched this with no context randomly and it's a little annoying but it's also quite funny and entertaining dissection of Australian culture. I dig it mate.
Big Brother: Episode #22.2 (2020)
Still running about the same, mediocrity.
I liked the outcome of this episode. I'm really rooting for kaysar. I'm hoping this season will get better as it goes on. I like it much more than season 21 so far.
Muppets Now: Fever Pitch (2020)
Way too little.
I wanted a lot more. There were 3 segments. A game show with Pepe. I chuckled once, it's ok. The second is the Swedish chef and with Danny Trejo which I enjoyed enough. Then the third is miss piggy which was pretty bad in my opinion. There's also a bit with scooter putting it together and fozzie cutting in. One big thing is that there's no sign of Kermit here. I think if you don't have Kermit it just isn't really muppets.
Big Brother: Episode #22.1 (2020)
Has potential.
This was ok. I like the challenges and twist and I'm glad it's still going on but a lot the cast I'm eh on and most of them annoy me.
Schitt$ Creek: Our Cup Runneth Over (2015)
Good start, but could be a lot better.
I liked the first episode of schitt's creeek, I like the style and Catherine o'hard and Eugene Levy are great but I think it has a lot more potential than what's done in this premiere.
Avatar: The Last Airbender: Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005)
I guess i'll finally jump onto this avatar train.
This was a really good pilot. Good at introducing all the characters, the setting and the art style. It definitely doesn't feel any more than pretty good as of now, but I'm looking forward to watching more.
America's Got Talent: Judge Cuts (2020)
Agt is back and they're making good of what they've got.
I really liked this style that they had with the judges and the big screen. It's good that the acts have more of a production to work with now and I like the judge cuts just being in one thing more than the spread out episodes. I think it should be a couple episodes, not just the one but I really liked this episode. Possibly the best of the season so far.
Muppets Now: Due Date (2020)
Very mixed results.
Some of this is great muppets, particularly the rupaul segment and Kermit is still fresh. But a lot of it just doesn't translate well and it's a bit cringey, miss piggy is really annoying here. I'll keep watching and I hope it gets better but so far it doesn't quite do it for me.
United We Fall: Date Night (2020)
Only Jane curtin can save this but just barely
Yeah this was the weakest of the bunch, not horrible, but just ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
United We Fall: The Biter (2020)
Still mediocre but perhaps a tad stronger.
There were a couple funny lines here. Sasso is still good, but I think the laugh track really gets in its way.
United We Fall: Pilot (2020)
United we fall flies high but sinks low.
There are good elements to this show, particularly Will Sasso who has good delivery but the show is mixed in whether it wants to be for the whole family or only adults and the characters aren't very likable.
