Girls Town (1996)
This Ain't 90210!
What makes this movie amazing is the simplicity. The realness of the actors (thanks to an amazing sense of improv by the three leads) is what makes this my all-time favorite movie. It is the only film I can watch consecutively and never get tired of it. Jim McKay is an amazing director, as he has come out with some other good films, but, to me, none have topped this one. Lili Taylor is phenomenal as a "street-wise" single mother still in high school. Bruklyn Harris' AngelA! is a character I would personally love to be friends with and Anna Grace's style is perfect for a teenage girl. For anyone who grew up in Queens, Brooklyn, or the Bronx, this movie brings much familiarity. For those who've never been, this film will take you there.
The Forgotten (1973)
Don't Watch This Movie! (Unless you bought it at Wal-Mart for a buck!
To oppose the view of the other review, i have to say that the acting is C movie. Either extremely over-dramatic, or lifeless. The plot is ridiculous, as any doctor who would let a patient, especially one in a Sanitarium, hold an axe, is completely out of his mind. There was no consistency to any of the characters. For instance, Allyson...At first she was schizophrenic, craving the need to be loved (which, actually nowadays is known as Bi-Polar), then she was psychotic. Her diagnosis did not match the character at all. The writing is Terrible, especially with the phone repairman walking in and insulting these people to their face. As for looking in the basement...Coulda been more shocking had it been filmed better. The editing sucked crap! Despite all that, it's a decent C movie, which in some cases nowadays, is better than most A Horror movies (Still holding a Grudge over the Grudge)
