It's good without trying to be
6 August 2019
I really enjoyed this movie and it's one of those movies that you can only explain as that; an enjoyable movie. It's blissful in a way of how it doesn't have a lot of astonishing aspects of it visually but when you start watching you can't stop. Me and my family watched this in a hotel for the first time as we scrolled through the channels and when we stopped on this one we kind of all just left it there without saying much. Everyone was easily engaged and thankfully we started it from the relative beginning. It just has a natural feel to that draws me in, my family, and hopefully others as well. It isn't trying to be anything; it's not arthouse neither is it a cliche comedy, it's just a good movie and a very enjoyable one to watch with really funny jokes and dialogue and characters who give off the correct tones that the director was going for.

Frick Fracikty Fukanaga this Movie is Great
22 May 2019
Cari Joji Fukanaga is an amazing director and it is very clear he knows what he's doing. Everything flows freely and the entire time it's kind of weird but even when you have no idea where he's going with this the way he has built this show just gives you a feeling of trust that he knows what he's doing. (In which he does) The entire time Fukanaga brings you into the stylistic mind of a 2 totally different mentally disturbed people with great imagery that evokes everything he is trying to get you to feel. He is able to give you enough information to keep you guessing and project yourself into the subject at hand and in a way to where your questions and thought processes are the same as the characters. I gotta give mad props to the casting too because everyone in this movie is incredibly well placed and I love all of their performances especially Magnussen and Jason Theroux. All of the acting is like over the top in the best way possible. It works so well in this movie and the best of it comes from the two just mentioned. And ima type this with as much vigor as I can HOLY CRAP I LOVE THIS SOUNDTRACK. It's something else I tell ya man and it is unlike any modern ST and at the same time it brings me back to movies I can't even remember. It's very euphoric and oddly nostalgic and I love it. The best way to describe it is that it feels like that scene in one the those Winnie the Pooh movies where he's lost in a crystal cave. Idk how you guys are supposed to interpret that highly individualistic scenario but at this point I don't really care either. Anyways Fukanaga knows what he's doing guys check it out, it's really not that long and it's so freaking amazing I can't express how much I really like this show. I don't watch a lot of TV so it's a pleasure to be able to enjoy something so viscerally entertaining and semi-thought-provoking.

Worst movie I've seen in a good while
13 March 2019
I've, in the most literal sense, had turds that we're more interesting and surprising then this computer-generated pile of hot garbage. Every single line in this movie I've heard in another action movie and even when it takes what few original concepts the book had it makes them worse and fantastically average. Not much can be said to give you the idea that I'm trying to get across but I can just let the movie speak for itself in this assortment of "creative" and "never-before-seen" lines of which I am, of course, paraphrasing:

"When will I know the signal?" "Trust me; you'll know."

"My mother died when I was 8." (Keep in mind said from the words of a cold, focused protagonist after before hand refusing to speak about it)

"I am -insert protagonist name- and you killed my mother, -insert mother's name- You will pay for what you did to her."

"I wanted to be a -insert dream profession- but when my parents died I just did what they did."

"No! You don't understand daughter! I'm doing this bad thing for the greater good!"

"So you and your girlfriend can sleep in here." "What? No! You've got the wrong idea, we're only friends."

These are only the few I could think of right off the bat and the movie is literally completely written like this. I did not once suffer one moment where I didn't know exactly how the dialogue was going to begin and end. However if you found all these mentioned quotes wholly original then more power to ya; you'll probably love this movie. In the mean time I'm going to find a more entertaining string of dialogue by reading the nutritional label on the back of a package of garlic flavored croutons. Did you know that they have like 5 grams of sugar in a 1/4 cup? Fascinating.

Colossal (2016)

I'm sorry I was told that there would be laughter here
15 February 2019
This movie reminds me of that Will Smith movie A Beautiful Mind because in both these movies you watch the trailer and the trailer is supposed to give you an idea of how the movie is going to go except they don't. This isn't a comedy, it's an abuse thriller with a couple possible jokes in it and a plot thinner than my patience for this movie. If you wanna hear the jokes then watch the trailer because every single joke is in the first act and once those things are gone the movie goes all "The Talented Mr Ripley" on ya and ceases to function. The makers of this film probably think that they are clever for this misdirection but it's not a misdirection, it's a complete change in genre. The worst part is even if I was expecting a dark movie all of its "sinister" beats fall flat and although Colossal may think itself as emotional and riveting in moments it just simply isn't. Colossal also tries to balance witty comedy, gritty real world elements, absurd ideas, and whimsical plot reasonings but in the end it topples on itself horrendously. Personally I have a relatively high-tolerance for dumb or passable movies but Colossal is neither; it's blissfully ignorant and inherently awful leaving me with an actual bad taste in my mouth that I washed out by watching some episodes of Parks and Rec. So in the end, if you wanna a comedy; go watch something else. If you want a real-life drama; go watch something else. If you want a suspense thriller; go watch something else. Literally just don't watch this movie. It's luke-warm garbage and has no substance in the smallest of details.
