The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
A new Hope ?
People who like the Mandalorian where happy to hear about the solo project of Boba Fett. I was curious too, but it seems with all of the creators good intentions this series is a little weaker than the Mandalorian. The Story, the concept itself is ok, but the realisation is not the best. I kind of felt like this is a cheaper version of Mandalorian although this should be way more, since this guy should be tougher than Mando. We are talking about Boba Fett, who survived so much in this universe. The portrayal in the Mandalorian was better. The actor Temuera was right: he does not need to talk that much. The whole mistery about the character is losing it's charm. He should have kept his helmet on when walking in the city - The idea that he takes of the helmet in the place where the most criminal peole of the universe gather was not a clever choice from the creators. It is like if Batman would take off the Mask in the city telling the people " no worries guys you are under my protection" - I think this was bad choice. In Jabbas palace among his crew it is ok to take off the mask. His Mask Is a Symbol, his enemies should fear and others should respect. I don't know how but the episodes which Rodriguez directed where the lowest point of the series. The action scenes where just not well choreographed. The editing was slow -which made the action scenes worse. The story is good, just Those episodes where really really bad and cheap looking. Ok the worst scene was not clearly where Majordomo is chased by the young guys - Majordomo is the cheesiest part of the series. He just does not fit in this universe. Too human and too american. In a different show he would be ok. Maybe more prostetics or contact lenses he would have a more alien look, but the acting was too human like. Besides these the best episode was clearly until now episode 5 with the direction of Bryce Dallas Howard - clearly she has her fathers good sense to direct. I loved each minute, and that episode had a really good atmosphere. Hope that the creators of the series will focus more on the quality in the next season and also to try to focus on what your audience wants to see as in the end of the day you are living from us. A re-edited version of the first 3 episodes would be not a bad choice. I am glad that they made the show , but they should make a bad ass Boba Fett , since the current portrayal is not that interesting unforunately. And Maybe the way Bryce Dallas Howard directs should be the Way. No .. This is the way!
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Multiverse of sadness
It was not a bad movie, just the same thing tepeated like in the Sam Raimi version- they just couldn't handle so many characters properly. The movie should have been longer to be able to dig deeper. The story could have been better, so the fight scenes and the dialouges seemed very poor, rather like improvisations. It was realky good to see familiar faces, but as mentioned they were just packed in the movie nit allowing the actors the times they would deserve. There were some inconsistent parts, but in the end it is for kids and seeing that way it is fine. Of course there were cool scenes and good jokes, but we cannot expect the level of the previous Marvel movies. Peter Parker is not Tony Stark and maybe for the good. Would be nice to see a part where the script is more intelligent. Some csmeos could have been done better and monumental but at least they give the characters the audience wanted. This time Disney did maybe learn something: they finally listened to their audience and gave the characters we wanted to see with some action. Ps: this does mot mean that fans will forgive Disney that they killed Luke Skywalker in Star Wars🙄Anyway, people with nostalgic feelings will dig it.
Mortal Kombat (2021)
The 95 version is still superior
Had mixed feelings after the trailer- those feelings got worse after watching the new version. Maybe good for a pilot for a web series but the Paul Ws Anderson movie - even with the outdated cgi - is still enjoyable. The story is not good at all, the characters are 2D and they are just often posing where the 95 movie had cool story cool fight scenes- this movie is not even close to the action scenes of the old movie. The special effects are not saving the new movie. As by many movie lately, the trailer is better than the movie itself. I'm sorry as it could have been a great reboot but the acting and the fight scenes are not impressive. It was claimed that the fatalities will be brutal- nope, they are forced. How about giving Paul Ws Anderson budget to complete the old trilogy and re-edit the second part- would have been more sense than this.
Castlevania (2017)
The less is not more..
First when the series appeared on Netflix I was excited as Castlevania is one of my favorite game but I am not happy with the results.Although the animation art is not bad it is not Ayami Kojimas art which was amazing.Today they could easily replicate the style of Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust from Madhouse inc. which would have fitted better to the world of Castlevania.Actually this series lacks everything what made Castlevania games fantastic: story , characters and music -yes the cool music from Castlevania is not there.Sometimes you can hear a familiar theme but it quickly goes away and through the episodes you either hear nothing or a silent meaningless music is going in the background. This tv show deserved so much more, but the stories are slow, halting and some of the characters like Isaac is depicted as a moron when he kills people after receiving the mirror and top of it he goes with his little shop of monsters to look for a ship and the captain welcomes them just like normal people. The screenwriter really knows how people would act in a situation like this..The voice acting is also boring. You become sleepy while just listening to the powerless conversations and again if the music would be good it is not. A lot of unnecessary cursing during dialogues which are absolutely not fitting to the characters. The potential is there but somehow the creators, writers and actors did not do their homework. Unfortunately this is a poor realization of an amazing story.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Downgrade after Genisys
I always say if after each failed James Bond episode they would run a reboot it would have been a crap. They continued even if some were weak. The reboot or the new "we ignore the previous episode and we make a true sequel" did not work by the Highlander nor by Superman Returns and the same goes to Terminator: funny thing is that Cameron said by each previous episode that it is going to be awesome he gives his blessing blabla, but after fans gave negative reviews he distanced from each sequel .Wonder what he will do this time? This is not a bad movie but not good either. This is the brazil soap opera version of Terminator. I think they messed it up to kill John Connor and gave a very weak woman in the lead, even if they tried to make her look cool, it was just a comedy in the future scenes where she tries to play a tough woman - it only fits to Linda Hamilton or to Sigourney- these young wannabe actresses just dont have the tough look or charisma- it does not work. The mexican terminator does not work either.Robert Patrick is still scary in the second part but this new bad guy is boring.Joseph Gordon Levitt could have been a better choice- and btw he looks like Robert Patrick in young version!!! I think Genisys was better and had more potential.I hope someone will cut the last 3 sequels into one movie and than we get a good ending of this story.Or they should hire Edward Furlong in front of green screen and reshoot the lines/ scenes of Nick Stahl from rise of the machines and maybe take some fight scenes where he leads the last troops against Skynet and humanity wins for once and for all. Why can't they just close the story with dignity with a monumental war? hope there wont be more so the story can be Terminated
Robin Hood (2018)
Not everything is gold that shines
Lately I do not read that much movie critics as before, especially when I see that only a few people are criticising movies on rotten tomatoes and then it immediately becomes a headline" this movie sucks" " rotten tomato says it's bad" and people believe these few lines and it destroys movies- financially as well.Back then We have seen a reinvented Romeo and Juliet with Dicaprio- it worked, we have seen Knights Tale with Heath Ledger which had the music of Queen- was awsome, we had seen a reinvented King Arthur in Snatch style from Guy Ritchie - actually not as bad as rotten tomatoes says, I found it cool. And finally this new revamp of Robin Hood... I wanted to give it a chance- unfortunately the result is very mixed. I see where they wanted to go with this Irak war veteran / crusader parallel, but it does not work. And I see the potential in this " new" direction... but no.The sets look sometimes really cheap, and a Robin Hood movie without Sherwood forest?Hungary has so many amazing forests, and they started shooting in the winter!!! Really clever! when there is hardly possible to find a good place.Acting is terrible- but lets be honest the truth is the editing was bad. With a good editor even a bad actor can look like Al Pacino in a scene. As watching it I could not enjoy the film because either they were showing an actor for too long when the camera should have already switched to the other. Camera angles were horrific sometimes, and the music was absolutely boring. If there would have been a better composer with more epic score than the scenes would have worked way better.Sometimes you were there and waited for catchy music but it remained a bored track which repeated all along the movie.Eggertons Rob was like a cheap Bruce Wayne from the middle age with Foxx who walked in England like Kanye West from the past. And nobody asked why a black guy from The holy war was among the people. At least the Kevin Costner version (which is my favorite)was accurate hiw they introduced the character of Morgan Freeman. There was a lot of incinsistency during the scenes. The Rob- Marion connection, the 50 shades of grey guy is like a moron extra, his acting skills not even worth 50 cent.If it would be re- edited than maybe..maybe it could save the movie with it's actors, since there is potential in it.I know i know, they will try to defend it that they put a lot of work in it blabla.Unfortunately it is a nice try with bad editing work that ruins the movie.I watch a lot of movies, I dont usually believe critics but this is a really badly edited movie.
