Interesting idea, but lots of cringe and plotholes
13 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's an interesting idea but pretty slow at the start. Lots of cringe with the main character acting like an instagrammer in an aquarium. Constantly looking dopey waving her hands around.

Lot's of plotholes, e.g. Right at the end lots of people think the whole thing is a hoax, but then risk their lives in a really stupid way based on believing it's true?

This is all for season one. Generally the story being retold seems a bit clunky. Also not getting the dimension jump during the whole thing is a bit of a let down. Also, if they lose their memory when moving dimensions, why would carving symbols on their back help them? They wouldn't know what the symbols represent.

Decent but not as good as the first
20 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There a few things that made the way of water less satisfying than the original IMO. First the 3D effect was disappointing. I can't remember if it was exactly the same in the first, but in the second some things were out of focus, but in a jarring way. Like spear and arrow tips were coming out of the screen, but if you looked directly at the instead of the characters face, it looked off. There were multiple places where if you looked somewhere other than the focal point on screen things looked bad.

Second the was quite a bit of spoon feeding, from dialogue, to defeating the purpose of avatar joining by just being able to talk directly to sea creatures.

Thirdly having the rare material switch, and also surprisingly low value was funny. Like maybe 80 million was a massive amount when the movie started production, but you'd need to kill over a thousand whales to get a billion, which seems a tall order.

Finally the whole story ends up in a worse position. In the first avatar they send the humans packing. This time they've only partially defeated the old villain's backup. Generally I think a new villain would've been better. A lot of things could've been cut without affecting the plot, like the relationship with the whales. They already established empathy with nature in the first.

Couldn't get past the puppets
1 May 2022
I get that the puppets are part of what people enjoy about the series, but for me they were just too clunky and drew me out of the story. Couldn't suspend my disbelief and get into the plot.

nostalgic

Breakfast catoon vibes. The animation didn't age too well, but it reminds me of sneaking down early in the morning to eat cereal and watch junk. That's it, wish IMDB didn't have a min 150 character requirement.

Plot holes, no grit
10 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Lots of big plotholes. Biggest complaint is when ben wade is basically free, choking out dan, then just fully u turns and starts capturing himself? Running towards the prison train and helping dan because dan told him he got his leg shot by friendly fire. Made no sense. Then goes and kills all his men because one shot dan, after letting them kill half the town they were hiding in. Cherry on top is wade whistling and his hose coming out from nowhere to follow the train, as if it'd hear him from that far away over the sound of a train.

Felt forced, plenty of cliche. Watch true grit instead.

This is the worst film I've ever seen.
18 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Title says it all. You don't feel anything for the characters. They behave in ways that make no sense. At one point they seem like they'll try to escape, the next they accept their fate and completely forget about their missing friends.

9 days pass. It really felt like 9 days watching this. The pacing is awful, dwelling on points that add nothing, while also jump cutting past or hinting at large events through dialogue. E.g. The British couple being killed? Wasn't super clear since you just hear Connie scream and don't see her body at the end like with Simon.

Overall just weird and disappointing. Could have been good if they'd explained the motivation of literally anyone. Why are the cult sacrificing people? I mean yeah they get something, but what? Did they seriously kill 9 people for a good harvest?

Why doesn't Dani try to escape? Why does Christian wait until it's too late? How did Pelle convince all his friends to travel thousands of miles to a remote area with no WiFi or cell signal, immediately take mushrooms, and then wait around as they're slowly murdered. Yes they smoked some weed at the start, but this feels like a biiit of a stretch.

Made very little sense. Very disappointing and long.

It was alright. The main thing I remember is Don Cheadle doing the worst british accent I've ever heard.

Starts strong but doesn't resolve
13 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Based on true events so I guess they're bounded by that, but it's pretty disappointing. Lots of possibilities, e.g. there's two killers, but they never get followed up to be confirmed or denied. Lots of big flash forwards, and the ending is a summary way into the future where, spoiler alert, everything is still unresolved!

The format of multiple stories in one large movie is interesting. The first few stories are great, but the later stories begin to drag.

Basically what the title says. The first half is good, the second half is pretty disappointing. Had potential, but I didn't really enjoy it.

Good movie, but a lot of cringy montages

Warning: Spoilers
I liked the movie, and I like fallout boy, but something about the combination was cringy. All the montages with the fallout boy songs were a bit off.

Not good
3 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The vfx/cgi is awful. There's a huge flashback sequence that's not very clear. Whenever sex/love is involved the men are super creepy and aggressive, to the point where one sex scene seems like it might have started as a rape? The whole thing ends on a really cliche cliff hanger. Maybe it's just bollywood style, but I'm not into it.

A bit too much crying for a feel good film
25 August 2020
The overall message is pretty positive and uplifting, but the characters spend a really large amount of the film crying.

A bit underwhelming
15 August 2020
I was expecting the intensity of breaking bad, but it's more like the fly episode over and over again. Too much detail, not enough significant change. I guess they're bounded more since it's a prequel, but having the ending already written seems to have stifled this show.

One of the best animated films.

One of my favorite animated films. Funny and action packed. Never a dull moment. Interesting character arcs tie the whole story together. I could watch this over and over.

Hasn't aged so well

The plot is decent, but the film itself looks pretty dated. Looks like it was shot on the same equipment as UK soap operas.

The ending sucked

Would have been 10 stars if the ending hadn't sucked so bad. Apparently the producers / directors rushed it so they could work on the new star wars movie.

I watch a lot of TV. This is my second favourite series after avatar.

It's got great animation, insane plot lines, lots of interesting fan theories if you want to dive deeper (is it always C137?) and harsh truths delivered in a hilarious comedy package.

Only down side is some of the fans of the show can be a bit r/verysmart. Like "you need an IQ of X to appreciate Rick and Morty".
