Mail Order Bride (2008)
Quite suspenseful. Not just a sweet romance.
I enjoyed this movie. It's about a feisty woman who wants to get away from a mean ex and answers a letter to her recently deceased friend, for a mail-order bride. I felt sorry for the prospective husband when he met the woman because she didn't tell him she wasn't the one he had been writing to and expected to marry.
I liked the characters, plot, scenery, horses, and the ending. It was suspenseful and heartwarming at the same time. As the characters revealed themselves, I became even more interested to see what the outcome was going to be, especially when her past caught up with her. It wasn't your typical Western-type movie, and that's what made it even more intriguing. I loved the fact that you could almost sense beforehand, some of the actions that would occur, but you could not foresee all of them. That makes it a great and entertaining movie.
The Founder (2016)
Interesting but very sad story.
The Founder is the story of McDonald's and how it began as a single shop and turned into the largest business in the food industry.
Ray Kroc is a desperate salesman trying to sell his product, a milkshake maker that no one needs. To his surprise, he gets an order for 6 machines. He cannot believe it and calls them back to be sure it was true. It was and to his surprise, the quantity was raised to 8. He had to see this place, so he goes to the restaurant. He was amazed to see the professionalism maintained and the ideas introduced/invented by the brothers for their business. Their restaurant is called McDonald's. Ray was eager to know their story and the brothers explain all their trade secrets. Ray couldn't sleep that night and goes back to the brothers with a new proposal. Here begins the story of the business tycoon McDonald's.
Ray Kroc was a scumbag of the highest order, in a class all his own. My heart breaks for the McDonald brothers who were steamrolled, manipulated, and who had their livelihood utterly destroyed by this cunning, ruthless man. Especially with the notes at the end how they never received one dime in royalties. This story will really make you hate McDonald's.
The McDonald brothers main concern for franchising their restaurant, which had taken them years to perfect just the way they wanted it was that the quality of the food would suffer and thus the name would suffer. Now some 60-odd years later it is funny to think about how that is exactly what happened. And is one of the reasons I stopped eating at McDonalds. After watching this movie, I am even more against the chain.
My Spy (2020)
Action-packed and hilarious.
This is hilarious! How can an experienced CIA operative be outsmarted by a 9-year-old? Well, she did and made him promise to teach her how to be a spy. So he took her on assignments where she introduced herself as his protege. The looks they got were priceless.
This movie is the best one I've seen all year.
London Has Fallen (2016)
Action-packed movie
If you like action-packed movies, watch this!
Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) saved the President of the U. S. from terrorists along with other world leaders who were also being targeted.
This movie is not about politics but about people. The ones being targeted as well as the citizens of all the countries that would be affected by the attack if their leaders died.
Christmas Under Wraps (2014)
Wonderful feel-good Christmas movie!
I loved the story about a young city doctor getting used to a small town in Alaska, knowing all her patients personally and finding true love with views of the Northern Lights. Nothing could be better than that. The acting was professional, yet charismatic. They were all charming and fun to watch. This added to this memorable holiday movie. I would watch this over and over and so would my family. The ending has a magical surprise.
It's definitely a nice feel-good movie to watch around Christmas.
Defending Santa (2013)
Wonderful family Christmas movie.
I really enjoyed this movie and was smiling all the way through it. I liked the way Santa was "defended" by not only a lawyer but all the children and most of the adults.
It's a wonderful family Christmas movie that I recommend if you are looking for something light and relaxing during Christmastime.
Fred Claus (2007)
Great Christmas movie
Surprisingly, Santa Claus has a brother, Fred. He is not a happy man and always getting himself into trouble. This stemmed from his life-long resentment for his brother, Nick (Santa Claus). When Fred got into a really big predicament, Nicholas bailed him out (literally). To pay off the debt, Nick has Fred come to the North Pole to make toys. Things had been rough up there so Nick needed the help anyway. This was working out but Nick had to watch Fred constantly because he was always making a mess of things.
Nick had his hands full trying to keep production up and his brother out of trouble but that was nothing compared to the efficiency expert who wanted to shut down the North Pole if production didn't meet regulation standards. Fred had always felt second-best to his brother so he messes up production any way he can as a way to give his brother some grief.
I really liked this movie but I wouldn't recommend it for young children. I loved the way the North Pole was portrayed. The special effects were excellent. The North Pole never looked better.
In short, this is a fun Christmas movie with some funny and not so funny parts.
The Case for Christmas (2011)
Good family Christmas movie
In this Christmas movie, businessman, Braxton Bennett, tries to have it legally pronounced that Santa doesn't exist, therefore doing away with Christmas spirit. When Santa is served, he goes to fight the suit and meets Lily. She's a young girl who believes in Santa and Christmas. She completely believes he really is Santa when he tells her what he brought her for Christmas last year. When she hears of Santa's problem, she coaxes her father, Michael Sherman (a lawyer) into helping him. Micheal thinks the man is insane and is worried that being associated with the case will cost him credibility as a lawyer. Why is Bennett suing Santa Claus? He obviously doesn't have Christmas spirit.
This is a nice holiday movie with a good cast. There is even a bit of romance in it with widowed Michael and his friend Lauren. I enjoyed this movie and children will too. Thanks to Santa, his elves and the workshop.
The Santa Clause 2 (2002)
Enjoyable, funny, cute movie
This was a very fun movie! It kept me smiling all the way through. In the sequel, Santa Claus is losing his magical powers. There was a hidden clause in his contract that he had to marry by a certain time or he would lose all his magic powers. So, he goes back home to date and helps straighten his son out who was on the naughty list. While away, Santa's lead elves make a clone of Santa so the other elves won't worry about Santa being away. The fake Santa is pretty funny as he learns the enjoyment of cocoa among other things. Then he gets completely out-of- hand and goes on a power trip. The tooth fairy even plays a part in this film. So Santa HAS to get married. Fast. Will he do it? This is the type of film that helps people better appreciate the holiday season. If you want a funny, enjoyable, cute, movie the entire family can go see, even your young kids, then I highly recommend this film.
