Bawaal (2023)
Watch the movie first don't blindly go after reviews!
I wasn't expecting much from this movie until the characters flew abroad and the story gains momentum by narrating the horrific incidents of world war II.
Recently the movie got flaged for trivialising holocaust but the thought never occurred while watching the movie because i was so shaken by the way it's been told. There's a dialogue "Every relationship goes through their Auschwitz" and I'm so against drawing such comparison but that didn't felt really awful in the movie. But pointing out that single line.. that seems very insensitive and inappropriate.
Until now i read this as a story in history texts but this movie really made me think otherwise. Watch it once before commenting. It's a one time watch movie. Varun Jahnvi did a fab job!!
Vasanthi (2021)
Brilliant screenplay & finest performance of Swasika!!
Vasanthi left me in awe of the screenplay that's intertwining the theatre and the real life. The protagonist begins narrating her story on a stage and walks off the stage straight away to her real life and when i lost track whether this was her real life or a play.. she returns to the stage to perform the next act..as if nothing happened. That was bloody brilliant.. the switch happens naturally and one couldn't help but wonder how beautifully it's been scripted.
Swasika herself lived as Vasanthi.. very raw acting and she mastered the nuances of a village girl and the way life forced the naive girl to become a prostitute. She carried the film in her shoulders and acted like a seasoned theatre artist although she has no theatre experience before.. the uncertainty in her eyes in the beginning soon turned cold dead and then blazing fire when life treated her bitterly. Her faint hint of smile and coyness was enough for the strongest of men go weak in their knees. Wearing simple cotton sarees with little or no makeup she was breathtakingly beautiful and a natural at it.
In the end when Vasanthi does that wild act of letting out her inner fire.. even her laughter was fierce. She had had enough but next moment she accepts life and move on. Swasika outshined herself with this role and portrayed the fine layers of acting with utmost finesse!
Siju wilson, Shabareesh & all the men in the life of Vasanthi left an impression because it's through their eyes i saw Vasanthi not through her inner turmoils which is a setback.
Rather than a coming of age story or the journey of Vasanthi.. its more like the story of men in the life of Vasanthi. The movie very well deserved all the awards it won and more.
Chathuram (2022)
Memorable thriller with erotic essence!
Just wow...witnessed stellar performances by Swasika, Roshan & Alencier in a well made thriller by Sidharth Bharathan! 👏
Swasika did her part exceptionally well and she looked steaming-hot throughout the film. She carries the film on her shoulders and kept us engaged in the story without a moment of lag.
Every character has got grey shades..and layers of subtle acting. Thrilling story line, perfect casting and interesting picturisation and background score are plus points.
Haven't seen anything like this in mollywood for a long time. There is not a bit of vulgarity and this piece of art deserves big screen admiration.
Yathrakarude Sradhakku (2002)
WATCH OUT!! Keep tissues ready
No matter how many times i watch this film, i am left in tears always. This film is a gem of satyan anthikaad and he had chosen a rare subject and projected it perfectly.
Ram and jyoti, two friends, met by accident and managed to stay together in a rental room. Everything us jolly good until the day when jyoti's wedding was fixed and Ramu realized he had feelings for her which on hearing left jyoti fuming because she isn't aware of her feelings for him. The friendship later turned into hatred and finally they both realize their love and jyoti gave in. It's a feel good movie, revolving aroung Jayaram and Soundarya mainly, but innocent and srinivasan along with oduvil unnikrishnan fills in with comedy. In a nutshell it's a feel good drama comedy movie and a sure tear jerker. The turbulent transformation of soundarya from her friendship with ram which turned sour and later complete avoidance and finally trusting, she nailed perfectly. Her acting is pitch perfect and lip sync is amazing considering she's kannadiga. Jayaram is fab as always.
