Brothers & Sisters (2006)
A complete misrepresentation of the GOP -- as somehow 'kinder and gentler'....
This series, as much as I LOVE it for the familial dynamics, a family dynamism which *I* never had, I truly resent, with each viewing, and I've viewed the entire series at least three times, now (it helps with insomnia, especially during the warm and fuzzy parts), the UTTER AND COMPLETELY FALSE REPRESENTATION OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, portraying the GOP as somehow 'NOBLE' and 'pro healthcare', and 'pro- environment'....And in these days of Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan and the LOT of the Republican ilk, which has been in power since the end of this series, I find it a wholly FAKE depiction of Republican concerns and policies....
SHAME ON YOU for depicting the GOP in any way HUMANE and concerned about the plight of ordinary Americans in any other way than which benefits the top 1% of this nation's wealthy population....
Music of the Heart (1999)
I Love This Little Film!!!
Every time this little film is on Encore, I inevitably watch. Tonight I even skipped a party to view this remarkable film. I have avoided Wes Craven films because of their creepiness and gore -- his usual subject matter is just not my favorite genre. But this 'small film' is such a compelling story about real people, real situations, and real heroism, courage, and just plain old chutzpah, that I am drawn very deeply to its story. There's also the quality of impeccable and subtly layered performances by so many amazingly talented actors turning in their finest work for scale, with words and cinematography of the same power and muster, to tell this wonderful tome of inner city challenges and a crazy gritty teacher who rises to the occasion, as well as depicting the lives of those who face such challenges daily. For me, the most moving part of this film is when the late violinist Isaac Stern appears on stage at Carnegie Hall, addressing in an amazingly warm telling of Carnegie's history, a number of the prior performers who've graced that magnificent stage. Though I wish the final performances of Bach could have been longer, it is absolutely thrilling to see the mentoring of this group of accomplished and noted musicians to the many young children and budding talents that performed with them. Every time I watch this, I weep for joy. Thank you to all who made this very beautiful film, and to Roberta Guaspari, who lived this story.
Dinner Rush (2000)
I Love This Little Film!!!
It's subtle and overt, and captures today's culture of cuisine amazingly, especially of old americanized Italian restaurants in and around NYC, and their metamorphosis into nouveau eateries and rock star chefs in today's urban scene. But for all its big town bravura and urbane snobbery, it's amazingly sweet, and when I see the father/son chat near the end of the film I simply fall out for its quiet gentleness and regard. The performances of every single actor in this film are understated, real, and flawless. I hope the writers/producers/crew/actors know what a gem they've made - it touched and moved me greatly... Thank you for this wonderful film...
