My Big Fat Greek Life (2003)
Wow! This is so bad!
So every other negative comment made is how I feel. The biggest problems were it being joke driven instead of character driven, all the funniest parts in the movies are the parts that weren't trying to be funny. As for the comedy, the laugh tracks ruined it, and really this should have never been made as sitcom, it should of been made into hour long episodes filmed as a drama/comedy similar to the movie. For me the absolute worst part was the changing of the story and they should have not rushed into it and waited for John Corbett to become available, even if it took a couple years! This Thomas character was so rude and dismissive of her family and their culture, whereas Ian was so accepting and ENTHUSIASTIC about being apart of her family. Insulting and having contempt for your wife's culture and family is not comedy, he made it feel like he was the absolute wrong man to marry in the first place, there is nothing charming about him. As far as I'm concerned no John no My Big Fat Greek anything!
I was very glad that they decided to make 2 more sequels, I'll be honest and say that they were not as good as the first one, but I was still happy because I enjoyed following the progress of the family. My only complaint is that the 3rd movie picked up only a year after the 2nd and it made it a tad hard to believe that her mother developed that level of Alzheimer's in such a short amount of time.
House of Evil (2017)
Seems a little too familiar...
This is straight up a reimagined version of Amityville Horror. The husband becomes obsessed with the house and becomes essentially possessed, no longer caring about his wife and their child. It's even set in the 70's, I mean c'mon. I think the creators actually really wanted to remake Amityville but after the Ryan Reynolds version did horribly they thought they could just changed a couple things, obviously out it Ina different house and no one would be the wiser. Vrry disappointed, it's proof once again that original horror stories are getting harder to come by. Even the great ones like "Insidious" and "The Conjuring" had something great and then sequeled it to oblivion. With Conjuring all I can say is that at least we got "The Nun" out of it, and if stops at the second movie then I will call that a win. But again this movie is just a rip off, and not even a good rip off. My recommendation is to just go and watch the original "Amityville Horror" and you'll what you thought you were going to get from this.
Freddy's Fridays (2023)
Equivalent to teens make a movie at home but with money and Girls
I'm not even going to address the details of this dumpster fire they call a movie. I want to know how these movies get made? What studios are handing out money for these movies. You're seriously telling me that a movie like this can get green lit and funded knowing that it will never get a theatrical release and never make that money back? But a movie like Deadpool sat on a shelf for 13 years and only got made because Ryan had to "accidentally" release some of it online. This is the world we live in?!?!
This is why the movie industry is dying, wasting money on crap like this. And because studios are wasting money on movies that not even lifers in prison would watch if it was their only option, really good movies get their budgets cut, or they just keep remaking the same movies over and over because it would cost too much money to buy original quality scripts. There are so many other movies that took writers and actors decades to get made because the studios wouldn't fund them, and when they finally do get made they turn out to be Oscar worthy movies, while over those decades money is being thrown away to pieces of crap like this! I mean please be honest, not the producer, writer, director, actors or distributors thought that this movie was going to add anything to the industry, it is never going to be the movie that some great entertainer accepting an award someday says was their inspiration. This movie is equivalent to some teens that found a camera and made a movie in their backyard, only with an actual budget and pretty girls.
And I'm sorry to be this mean but if you are an actor who can't seem to get a part in any movies other than these, then you really should have taken the hint by now, if all that is required to act is too remember words, fake emotions, and make faces to match that emotion or to look like you're reacting to something then everyone should be acting... Especially the women 😉 right ladies.
It just infuriates me to the core. There are good bad b horror films that I've either loved or at least got a kick out of them. This is there definition of RAGE WATCHING! Do better filmmakers!
