Bird (1988)
If you really want to know more about Charlie Parker...
I really suggest picking up the book written by Stanley Crouch entitled Kansas City Lightning. Excellent read. It apparently took Stanley 20 some odd years to put the book together due the intense amount research that went into it. One of the greatest assets in the process of writing the book was the contribution of Rebecca Ruffin, Charlie Parker's first wife. He married Rebecca when he was 16 and she was 18. It really chronicles Parker's life from childhood up until his early mid 20s. That is what was really missing from this biopic that Clint Eastwood made. The development of this person. This iconic musician that changed the game. The film was well cast, well acted, it looks real good, but there was so much missing. It focused way too much on Charlie Parker the junkie. Charlie Parker and Chan Richardson. Charlie Parker the philandering scoundrel. It didn't mention hardly any of the musicians that Parker worked with and who his influences were aside from Dizzy and Red. And I really don't understand why Clint Eastwood chose to have Keith David play the part of, I'm guessing Buster Smith, the way that he did. Buster Smith was a heavy influence on Parker. A real mentor. In the film he comes across as this antagonistic, adversarial type of person which couldn't be further from the truth.
The Assignment (2016)
piece of craaap.
Only saving grace is michelle. but still.. her as a dude.. its just creepy
The Departed (2006)
A Craptastic piece of work. 1/2 good 1/2 Crap.
Definitely not Scorsese's best work. But it isn't all HIS fault I'm sure. Great cast. Everyone across the board hit their mark. It looked cool. It sounded good. Good dialog. HOWEVER, the story was a complete hot mess. SOOO Many plot holes and inconsistent developments in the progression of the story that make NO sense at all. I mean, its like they just made some script based on another film and slapped it together without a whole lot of thought about credibility and reality of things. There is almost too many things I could point to as examples. I saw this in the theater and thought it was really great years ago. But after watching it a few more times... You really notice alot with it. It did not deserve all the accolades it got.
Whiplash (2014)
Poo Poo-COMPLETE OVER THE TOP BS-Great Music
Look, I don't know about you all, but if my college band professor slapped me around like that and degraded me like that, I would have beat his ass in front of everyone. GO ON then! Kick me out. F*** it! That tight black T shirt and shaved head ain't gonna stop me from F***'in you up! Punk a** had probably never been in a fight in his LIFE! Scrawny little drum student takes him down on stage in front of everybody... I was like "GET HIS ASS!!" What more could it possibly hurt if you choose to go all the way with it at that point?
Intimidating that trombone player, the fat kid, was pretty f'd up. But really this is some pretty contrived S***. OOOhhh the pressure!!
Playng until you Bleeeed... what horsepucky! I know many FINE drummers that went through the shizz and NEVER came out with wounds like THAT from playing!
And That Final scene... Great drumming! Beautiful Arrangement! BUT!!! Didn't you all kind of expect Fletcher to pull something like that. Throw some chart the kid ain't ever seen before and be like "HAAAhaaaaaa! I will now make you look like Poooooo!! Vengenance and Victory is MINE!! You will SUCK and walk off the Stage with your head held in SHAME!! BUT! Then! He goes NOO! I will GO back up there and SHOW YOU ALL!! - Pssh.... It was a good solo though on Caravan.
World War Z (2013)
It was O.K. but the book was so much better.
I am a big fan of the book. It really surprised me as to how compelling the stories really were. it was fascinating to get the perspectives from all of the different cultures and walks of life that Max Brooks included in his writing. It was really convincing. The movie however, barely scratched the surface. It would be almost impossible to wrap that book up into a two hour flick but they could have used more elements from the actual writing. It seemed to to me that they just took the idea of the book and created their own story for it. The characters in the film were basically composites of the people that Brooks wrote about. The film was fun enough to watch but it could have been any zombie movie really. It just didn't have the ideas and depth that Brooks brought to the reader. I don't think that they even referred to the virus(Solanum) at all in the film.
L.A. Noire (2011)
Do not buy this game
Soooooooo Disappointed!! Lamest excuse for a interesting, compelling, distraction I have ever seen. Wasted 40 bucks on the damned thing. It looks kinda cool but the actual game play blows!! its boring, redundant, slow, lame ass characters, and stupid dialog. I am a big fan of James Ellroy and L.A. Confindential. That was a great story and the film adaptation was very good. This does Not work here. You don't get to be Bud White doling out justice on those that deserve it. I saw the commercial and it looked great. And that really Is it. Don't be suckered! I wasted 5 hours of my life playing this lame ass BS waiting for it to get better but it just remained a very bland, mind numbing, tedious, chore!!
