Words on Bathroom Walls (2020)
Beautiful movie!!!
This movie hit home. I found it randomly one night and so glad I did. My daughter was diagnosed with schizophrenia spectrum disorder at age 17, her senior year of high school. I know too well the realities of this movie. Brilliant acting and writing. A well made movie with enough emotional depth. I would definitely recommend this movie.
Obviously a movie cannot portray the intricacies of the hardships of any diagnoses, the joys of treatments of overcoming and regression, or the family conflicts that result because of a diagnoses such as schizophrenia. However, this movie did a great job touching on the emotions of the illness without making it overly "Hollywood".
Stillwater (2021)
Amazing film. Tragic love story. They don't make them this good any longer.
First, this film was incredibly acted. Truly was an amazing piece of cinema. Although beware, this isn't a thriller or a crime drama, although it had some seasoning of such. At the film's core the story is truly a tragic love story which is portrayed in many relationships from romantic to parental (both ways) and more. By the end one will find themselves perplexed, moved and struck with a sense of terrible loss. Betrayal, love, anguish and loss are deeply reflected through this film, I highly recommend watching. Anyone giving it a low rating didn't truly grasp the point of the movie. Sure, it wasn't an easy watch, even haunting, yet everything is superb about this movie.
Euphoria (2019)
Great show. Not realistic
I agree with everyone saying this show doesn't accurately represent the behavior and experiences of high school age kids. I'm not saying the issues presented are not issues within the high school population and certainly each scenario has happened and will continue to. I also am not saying that high school kids are not having sex (not a bad thing), drinking and some into drugs. However, there is a stark difference from understanding and portraying reality and this shows fantasy picture of sheer destructiveness among an entire population.
The show is like ordering a double-shot of espresso, it's very concentrated. The show is very tunneled into conveying that the behavioral normalcy among the high school population is what's presented, and that isn't the case. It's like sexuality experiences on crack, drinking on crack, parental unawareness on crack. Yes it all happens but not in the concentrated way this show portrays.
The first few episodes of season one do completely feel like aimless sex, drug use and partying with no real direction. As you move along through the first season there is developed depth to the characters and plots got stronger. The show became worth its entertainment, even with some good messages if you wade through all the grandness.
I gave it a nine because of the amazing cinematography, and stellar acting, and the photography is pure genius. Also, as the show progressed a real beauty in the characters blossomed. The show also did start to deliver with a sense of purpose. You must hang on until season one, episode four, where it does become worth your time, more than just the entertainment perspective. And the amazing visual of using Kodak Ektachrome Film starting in season two was simply stunning!! This show ended up being incredible artistry in both visual and story telling! Highly recommend!
As for the subject matter, I took off a point for being sometimes over the top, but nevertheless a show worthy of your time. Concerning the content, just know that you are ordering a double-shot of espresso and not the mainstream regular coffee with creme and two sugars.
Låt den rätte komma in (2008)
Bravo!! Bravo!!
I don't give many movies a top score. This movie was utterly perfect. The feel and vibe were incredible. The acting was true talent. The soundtrack is a perfect fit. I highly recommend this movie. Just enough horror, great suspense, tragedy, and the love story fantastic. I walked away fully content after watching. Very moving.
Monster's Ball (2001)
Helle and Thornton are incredible.
The movie was pretty amazing with a great story about dysfunctional lives and redemption. If you don't understand the redemption part than the movie won't be as good. I do wish the movie developed some of the details better such as why the prisoner was executed and the reason the older father and son had tensions. Also, I would have liked a few more complex developments such as Helle's character realizing Thornton's character was involved with the execution of her husband earlier on. Although, there are flaws the movie is one of my favorites with great acting and good chemistry between the two. It is my understanding Thornton and Helle had dated prior to making this movie which I think made the chemistry between them so much more natural. Definitely worth seeing.
The Fosters (2013)
Amazing show with strong connect
It takes good writing, and good acting for me to rave about a series and The Fosters certainly met my expectations. Described best like a good book that you don't want to put down. The situations are mostly believable, portraying the real side of family, especially blended, tackling a diversity of topics and keeping a strong plot line throughout certainly is a strongpoint of this show. Not too mention some of the scenes are quite touching, or anxious, some even chilling, with great cinematography. You'll laugh, and cry, get frustrated, experience anger, and grow to love the different characters hoping for the best outcome. If you're looking for a great series to sit back and enjoy your evenings with The Fosters won't disappoint.
Your Honor (2020)
Good with many flaws
Bryon Cranston's acting is superb, the plot is fresh and the anxiety keeps one interested. However there are many flaws. The storyline became far fetched although understandable as the storyline needed to extend a full series. Many parts became unrealistic and didn't maintain complete reality. Personally, I would have rather seen this as a long movie, as I truly felt it would have been better served as a two hour blockbuster. The son's acting is absolutely B level horrible and annoying to watch, he's whiny and his character overly stupid. I'm on season one episode seven so we will see how it goes by the end. Despite my negatives, I do recommend watching. There is more good and ok than bad and horrible, not many awesome. Obviously Bryon Cranston upped the viewing experience but overall it is worth the watch on its own merits. Expect episode one to be rated an easy nine (scale of 1-10) than with each episode it's starts degrade and bottom out to a strong five by episode four. Episode seven had some good cinematography. Again, it's solid entertainment but don't expect the WOW factor of episode one gives!
Spinning Man (2018)
Amazing movie if you look beyond the surface.
This movie deserves a much higher review than it what it has gotten, although I understand why many give it lower scores. If you watch this movie and expect the conclusion to be handed to you than I would move on. However, if you want to really have to think about the ending than this movie will be exactly what you signed up for. Very intelligent movie that keeps you the entire story. Don't miss a beat, a line or a scene as they ass tie together. I highly recommend this for a night you wish to curl up, block the world and must use your mind to solve a murder...you decide?
