Colony (2016)
Great show
I have really enjoyed Colony. It's so gripping, interesting and unique. I liked the concept of the "host" alien invader whom remain extremely mysterious for the most part.
I enjoyed all the characters. Alan Snyder was probably my favourite. He's such a good character and the actor played him really well. He was not the 2 dimensional weedy leader I was expecting.
I was moved by the struggle the Bowman family
went through to protect their family and each other.
I genuinely believe it has been so underrated and overlooked, and it's a shame that they cancelled the show because it was so interesting.
Ragnarok (2020)
Shockingly boring
Oh my goodness! I had high hopes for this series.
The first season was a good start, then it just got from bad to worse. To be truly honest, it was a slow start in season 1, and not much was happening but it was a very good premise- the reincarnation of the NORSE Gods and giants in the modern world, it had such potential.
Where to start. The main character Thor is wooden, weak, boring and has no oomph. His weakness and uncertainty is understandable in the beginning but this is persistent throughout. There is barely any character development or growth. I don't blame the actor (mostly), the writing is not great.
I must say the epitome of BAD came with the last 2 episodes of season 3, specifically the ending. First of all, WHAT THE ACTUAL Fishsticks was this ending?!
I remain confused, was this all in his head? Is he really Thor and are all the giants real? What exactly was this ending???
This is the kind of show where I need to sit down with the writers and producers and ask a ton of questions to understand as a viewer what they're vision was because I didn't understand
If this is the storyline they wanted, then why not make it a TV movie where all this can be condensed into 1.5 hours. Because there was no reason AT ALL to make us go through three seasons of what essentially was a story on coping with teenage trauma.
Fate: The Winx Saga (2021)
Meh
Below Average teen drama plus magic. The writing is okayish, the acting is average and the story development could do with some work.
But I can't fault it for what it was. Season 1 is slightly better than season 2, there's mystery and the story has good pacing.
Season 2 is irritating at best. Bloom is a terrible heroine, her self-centredness plus her naivety and continually allowing herself to be manipulated and placing her friends in danger is annoying.
All the other teens and their love stories are terrible. There is little chemistry and over-sexualisation considering they are supposed to be 16 year old teenagers it was a little disturbing. But I guess because the actors are all in their 20s made it less unpalatable to watch.
Then there's the uninspired villains, urgh. I truly don't think I remember much of season 2 due to how boring and bland it was. I just know I was left disappointed.
I did enjoy the visuals, the fairy magic and that's pretty much it really. I guess I stuck around for the visuals.
