Jonah Hex (2010)
Scarry movie (that's a pun, and more clever than anything in the film)
It's impressive that this film manages to nullify the considerable talents of (among others) Josh Brolin, John Malkovich, Michael Fassbender, and Will Arnett, as well as the almost negligible talents of Megan Fox. That's the only impressive thing about the film, however. At 80 some minutes running time it's evident that a lot of footage got left on the cutting floor, but what remains is nothing more than a hodgepodge of ideas, bad dialog, and cheesy CGI hastily glommed together. A decent score and some impressive makeup on Brolin are the movie's only saving graces.
Uncharted (2022)
Unfamiliar with the inspiration but still disappointed
Algorithm-driven plot, paper-thin characters, and a painful reliance on mediocre FX and halfhearted attempts at humor made this film seem much, much longer than its advertised running time.
This is not a worthy addition to the genre.
Modern Love: The Night Girl Finds a Day Boy (2021)
An engaging metaphor
Despite its occasionally cringe-y dialog, I really liked this episode, and Zoë Chao's performance in particular. The story expanded its initial "meet cute" trope and managed to artfully illustrate the day/night, me/you divide we all face when we decide to truly share our life with someone.
