Gunpowder Milkshake (2021)
Ugh, who writes this based on Men hating women?
So, I love the cast. The movie isn't about acting? It's a shooting movie. Get over the need for a decent script.
What I can't get past is the "top boss" stating he had 4 girls. FOUR FEMALE children he could not relate to. ?? What??? He felt out of place in his own home? WHAT? We went the whole movie on just gunshots and you throw the male void and male trauma at me in the last 15 minutes?
Worse, his kid, his MALE kid is a thug. The assassin acted on orders. She gets killed and a gang war breaks out because his little girls giggled and whispered around the house?
He shouldn't have been a parent. How is a thug? LOL.
Awake (2021)
Really flipping good!
If you have no experience with PTSD, this was very well portrayed. Muscle memory and built in memory movements and repeated sleep deprivation was very well portrayed.
The beginning was slow and kinda hard to get into, but it builds quickly and you see that in a short few hours humanity goes insane. 😢
Them (2021)
Brilliant work between Civil rights and Twilight Zone
This piece made me cry. I cannot express how genuinely angry over historical events, but how happy I am that this is on television!! Educate everyone! Learn, embrace each other and let's learn to not be this way.
The horror aspect blew me away. I am a horror fanatic. That being said, as a woman, I was triggered, scared and angry. I loved and hated every moment. I have to watch it again.
Good God! Who wrote this! I'll have another!
American Dad!: American Fung (2015)
Fung Wah... You know, those buses that burst into flames every week in Boston?
OMFG. I had to google this to remember the name.
The name isn't spelled the same, but the joke is there.
So, The pic they use for Seth is hilarious.
Second, Fung Wah spoofs on how the Chinese see our culture. "All cash and splash". There used to be a bus line from Boston to New York City (Or wherever) and it was on fire literally every day on the Toll Road out of Boston. Seriously, I used to think it was a permanent fixture (like the Simpsons) or it was a running gag to keep people off the toll road.
Oh no. People actually paid $12 a seat to get on this bus.. (LOL!!!) to get on the bus and the engine burst into flames. Years later.. it is indeed Fung Wah.
Lovely thing that it went out of business. People always standing on the side of the road with luggage and looking surprised.
Stan yet again forgetting his anniversary is just icing on the cake. He forgets every year.
Of course, the wardrobe for Roger is prior to Roger having moved his personas to the factory. Classic!
Dolemite Is My Name (2019)
Perfect! I loved it! Eddie Murphy and Crew and worth the long wait!
OMG, I thought it would never get to Netflix!
Thank you Netflix for getting this Mother-loving picture on the screen!
Dolemite! Dolemite! Dolemite!
Hellboy (2019)
Good.
It was good, but it was a reboot/continuation?
It was very close to the comics and very well done. The characters are pretty far out there, but some of the flash back moments definitely look like they came from the first few movies. They could have continued the film set, but the new take make it a bit more gritty and less campy with a touch of camp. Very nice.
I can't wait for the next movie!
Flowers (2016)
If you've ever felt like an outcast, or been told you're unconventional.. this is for you.
Wow.
So, as someone who suffers from depression, I cried my eyes out during the first four episodes. It's just powerful, bone chilling work. Just so moving and so alarming. So really relatable in today's day and age.
Then layer on the children and your career and your interpersonal life and wow. It really does start to feel overwhelming just like your own life. I couldn't blog this better if I wanted.
Bravo. Amazing. I've watched everything these actors has done and it's always interesting to see two actors doing something different and something new and pull something so intricate out of each other. wow.
Triple Frontier (2019)
For all those War Vets who talk about going to get "Revenge" on cartels..
So powerful.
A great movie. I don't even know where to start. A little sluggish as we don't really know how the guys fit together in service though it gets slogged out in the first 45 minutes of the movie. But I will say this, the bonds that tie the guys last. You can see the errors they make (and have made) as they flash forward and back through each scene. You can see the bonds as they go through each trial.
You can easily see why so many people want to go back after cartels and why it's just not feasible. OMG!
Loved it. Do another Netflix!
Captain Marvel (2019)
Loved it! Brie knocked it out of the park!
You know, I saw the bad reviews and I was apprehensive.
Then I thought, oh wait, I'm a GIRL and I watch what I want and I can make up my own damned mind.
And that's what I did.
First, Brie is entering the Marvel/Disney Universe late. Captain Mar-Vell didn't. The Kree didn't and the Universal war didn't. I mean, seriously. Why all the bashing? Oh wait. Brie doesn't have a penis. That's the Start and the stop of this movie bashing.
Second, every time you think there's a crisis in the Marvel universe; there's something much MUCH bigger going on across more Multiverses. Another whole layer of things going on that makes what happened in the our nine realms look tiny.
Just keep that in mind.
Third, the movie just rocks. She's knocked down, kidnapped, brainwashed and told everything is just as it isn't. (Of course, this is also modified a bit because we don't want the movie to be 900 hours long) The important part is, she's off doing something so important that our little piece of the Multiverse is on a PAGER far, buried in her jacket. Because we're literally just that unimportant in the Multiverse scale.
Her recovering her memories and putting it altogether before we get to the fact that she is the living Tesseract is just phenomenal.
So wake up boys. Put on your big boy's pants and step aside. Yes, women can be heroes too.
Adventure Time: The Prince Who Wanted Everything (2014)
Terrific for all kinds of ages!
I watched this briefly, and then I went back and watched this after watching the story explanations on You-Tube. OMG!
So many details! So much explanation and so much attention to characters and timelines! If regular scripted shows were this in depth we'd not need so many news shows, right?
I let my younger wards (neighbors kids) watch this. They deal with death and change surprisingly well. It's shadowed, and traumatic and scary. In a shadowy, unknown way that it is as an adult explaining it to a child.
They handle relationships between friends and family and peers in a way that is so relevant to teens that I couldn't have written this better myself. It's appealing to all types of relationships. Serious, same-sex, those that don't have great relationships and those that have friends that are family.
I have watched this show through about 5 times now. It's simplistic in the way it seems to animate and show off Finn and Jake and their interactions with others. It seems straightforward. It's just not. Finn and Jake have a very complicated relationship that is unraveled and wrapped back around as two step siblings that can't seem to make heads or tails of anything, but that seem to be able to find stability in each other and in their daily routines. Finding each other and about their own place in the world is just a step along the way.
Cloak & Dagger (2018)
Wicked Relevant and Very exciting!
The first episode jumps right into action, and if you relax and let the imagery flow the next few episodes make sense. This series is so relevant right now in the United States.
The flash backs bring the characters closer to each other, while weaving in the complexity of having powers and layering on the outside world and the politics of what is happening around them. It's truly fantastic storytelling at it's best.
Big Legend (2018)
Best 'Squatch movie in a long time!
Oh wow!
This movie really pulled from it's 1970's "scary is where you don't know what's coming because you keep seeing this.. I think? but wait... did we pass this.." It puts you right back on the edge of your seat and makes you think about camping, the whole secluded mindset while camping and now every single noise you'll ever hear again!
Oh wow. Just totally blew my mind. I totally didn't anticipate the terrific ending!
Can't wait for the next one!
Steve Martin and Martin Short: An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life (2018)
Loved it! It's Definately comedy for Gen-X
If you're a millennial, it probably won't make much sense, but for those of us who remember SNL in the original, unedited glory days? All those jokes that make you go "Wow" and "OMG" I remember all those films... Yeah. Thanks guys. Going to re watch all those films.
~When is Steve Martin making another 'Jerk' Movie? LOL
The Rain (2018)
A great twist on an old concept
I was hesitant at first, bit this show really picks up steam after the first few shows and shows a lot of promise.
Lots of twists and turns and yes, you really have to pay attention. Missing one scene will really mess up the entire episode for you.
I loved it!
The Titan (2018)
He's a water thing with wings?
I don't know what's going on with this movie - and I didn't care after the first 10 minutes.
This movie opened with a good premise and "oooh, what's this about" preview sequence. Then.. WTF is going on here? WHAT? We've done this storyline to death!
OMG. I love these actors, but this movie stank out loud! OMG. Crappy effects (when you could see them) No plot, or a crappy plot and what is going on with the kid? Nothing, that's what.
What a waste.
