Talk to Me (2022)
No
Terribly, annoying characters. Nothing we haven't seen done before, but much better. Not scary at all, I found myself getting bored as we got deeper into the film, by the end, I just didn't care anymore. As I always say, though, make up your own minds. This was a one and done for me, nothing that really sticks in my mind about this one

Night of the Hunted (2023)
laughably bad
Ive never recommended that someone should not watch a movie I disliked, and I'm not going to start now. Please DO watch this movie, it has to be seen to be disbelieved. It tries to be even in it's politics, but it fails miserable. The Hunt and Sick did it much, much better, with The Hunt leaning slightly "right" and Sick leaning slightly "left." Also, these two had something this one didn't have suspense> They also had some sly humor, mocking both sides, that was actually funny. The best thing I can say about Night Of The Hunt is that the lead was decent and it had some laugh-out-loud moments, though they were unintentional. This was like a cnn/dnc co production from an original story co-written by tony fauci/obama and directed by hillary. Antifa/hamas/blm will rave - "the greatest story ever told?"
Infinity Pool (2023)
Pretty bad
At this point, I'm just regurgitating what many of the lower reviews have stated. It's nicely shot, great visuals and great cast. Not a boring moment and it keeps you watching. Too bad everything witnessed is annoying as can be. Only one sympathetic character in this whole mess, and she has very little to do in it, unfortunately. I was cheering on for the corrupt cops and government over the annoying and obnoxious tourists. And don't get me started the pathetic, spineless jellyfish bimbo character portrayed by Skarsgård. I was at least hoping that the characters would meet some form of retribution for their over-the-top obnoxiousness - no such luck. By the time all is said and done, Skarsgård is still a pantywaist and the other moral imbeciles slide back into society as polite people and well mannered people. Last thing, was the ending leaning towards black humor or was it just laughably bad? What was the whole point of this movie? Not for me, once was enough. To others, you'll have t watch and make up your own minds.
No One Will Save You (2023)
Close Encounters meets Signs
Not bad, could have been better. Like many have said here, this movie lost its way a little in the final 3rd of the film. It felt much longer than it's roughly 80 minutes due to the unneeded, in my opinion, added storyline. Could have (should have) been a fun little thriller if not for its over ambition. All this being said, it's still an enjoyable movie, much batter than many of the recent horror/thrillers of the last few years. This has a protagonist you care about and root for. The just adequate cgi works because of the effective and creepy creature design. There are a few tense moments, too. In-spite of its shortcomings, I think many will enjoy this, don't pass it up. I liked it well enough to add it to my physical media if it ever gets a blu release.
Scream VI (2023)
7/10 rating???
First they killed off the Halloween franchise, now they've stuck a fork in this one. If people keep watching and rating these garbage movies so high, hollowood will keep giving us the same cliched, nonsensical crap over and over. This is a very slight improvement over the last one, but that's really not saying much. I caught myself wincing and rolling my eyes at the weak dialogue and the stupid actions of the truly annoying characters. Was also quite predictable, it's not like many will guess the killers at the end, but it does project in advance who they are. Not. This tries to get by on heavy handed, fan service, but it does not work and falls flat, in my opinion. I really hope we've seen the last of the Scream movies.
Bear with Us (2016)
Comedy?
This movie might have been funny 50 years ago. Not one chuckle or smile from me. Not sure why it was shot in black and white, either, it added nothing really. I think the outtakes at the end may have been funnier than the movie itself, and it seems as if the actors had a great time filming this. I did give it 3 stars for the somewhat likable characters and the actors portraying them. I often hear that horror comedy is the toughest genre/sub-genre to pull off, and this movie proves that is true. Really wanted to like it, but it just didn't work. If I have anything positive to say about this, is that I didn't abandon watching it, and I wasn't entirely bored by it.
Sick (2022)
just ok
Decent movie that adds nothing new to the genre. It had decent performances with somewhat likable characters. Great location shooting and sets. Also, it really picks up in the second act, not much in the sense of dread or fear, but it at least avoided drowning the audience with lame jump scares. As for the covid part of the plot, hated it. No matter which side you fall on, you'll find yourself rolling your eyes. Some here have claimed the this takes aim at "anti-vaxxers," but make no mistake, it takes shots at both sides and even hits the target on a few occasions. In any case, as silly as the overall plot is, it's still somewhat enjoyable due to the second half of the movie. Worth a watch.
A Wounded Fawn (2022)
So close
To being a really good movie. I loved the Giallo look and feel of the movie. The first act really grabs the viewer with tension and some genuinely creepy moments. Act two is where things come apart a bit. Goes into overdrive with horror art, then the wheels completely fall off with the pretty ridiculous ending. I know what they were going for, but it just didn't work. The effects range from intentional 1970's bad to pretty gruesome and bloody, for those that like that sort of thing. Good performances and again, the way it was shot, to give a 70's feel, is pretty awesome. I'm sure it's a movie that I'll revisit again in the future, and I may even add it to my home BD collection if it gets a release. Not for everyone, but I do recommend to at least give it a watch and decide for yourselves. Last thing, as another reviewer here stated about this movie and that it's what Barbarian should have been - I wholeheartedly agree.
Fresh (2022)
Not bad, not genre bending either.
I'm right in the middle with this one. Yeah, can be kinda gross in some parts, but nowhere near as bad as many of the one star reviewers are making it out to be. It's actually, imho, pretty tame. Much of the horror gore is seen for seconds, it's the lingering thought of what just happened that left many drained, I suppose. The two leads are also quite good, I'll never see Bucky Barnes the same again. Never dull, and it kept my attention throughout. That being said, it's not as cutting edge as some are making it out to be. This is billed as a coxed/horror, but honestly, I didn't find myself laughing at all. The j supposed jokes fell flat and the grrrrrl power dialogue is just tired and old. In short - good movie, with some fun to be had, but not a neo classic in the making. I may change my mind after a second viewing down the line, but for now, it's entertaining enough. Needless to say this is NOT for the faint of heart. Make up your own minds, do watch it. If you can.
The Wind (2018)
Good Western Horror
This is one of the better entries in the horror/western sub genres. Some complain that the non linear story is a bit muddled and confusing, I believe it was done right and is actually easy to follow. Now, the ending, that's a different story. I guess this was purposely left open to interpretation by the viewers? This would be my only criticism of the move. I don't like when movies are written to explain every little detail to the audience, but in this case, just a bit more story would have been beneficial to the overall story. Still, that's not enough for me not to recommend this little gem. Strong points of the movie are the cinematography and the performances by the small cast. The lead, especially shines in this. Recommended viewing.
Halloween Ends (2022)
Glad it's over
I didn't hate this the way I hate Kills, but the fact is this movie suffers from the same lazy and amateurish writing, terrible editing and uninspired performances with silly dialogue. Michael is just barely in the movie, and when he does show up, he's beaten up quite easily and made a fool of. What a sad ending for such a horror icon. He's defeated again, quite easily, by an elderly women. Pathetic. There's nothing at the end to suggest this will continue, and I really hope that's the case. I don't understand how this latest Halloween could start out so promising with the 2018 release, and take a hard left into such stupidity and revisionism of a horror classic.
Deadstream (2022)
Great fun!
Very few horror movies are coming out that I can truly get behind, this is one of those few. The comedy works, more hits than misses, especially in the first half of the movie and the horror elements work and are quite effective and moderately unnerving at times. Pretty fun movie overall. It's Evil Dead for the internet generation, if you will. To sum things up, it's a laugh out loud comedy and unnerving terror with a pretty good ending that reminds me of Tod Browning's Freaks and 1977's The Sentinel, on a smaller scale, but still packs a punch. Strongly recommend this to horror fans, but I think casual viewers might get a kick out of it also.
Orphan: First Kill (2022)
Unintentional comedy
This movie has to be seen to be disbelieved. What worked best about the original was Isabelle Fuhrman, the worst thing about this new entry -Isabelle Fuhrman. She looks nothing like a child, the camera angles to make her look small are annoying. You can tell the adult actors are stabbing much taller than they should be in some shots. The quick cut aways from the backs of child stand-in actors and Isabelle Fuhrman are equally annoying and obvious. The plot twist may have made this a camp classic, if only they had gone with a child actor that looks like Fuhrman. All this being said, I really do recommend people watch this for the laughs.
The Boys (2019)
No thanks
Bought the hype, made it 4.5 episodes into the first season. People saying politics weren't really a part of season one are mistaken, it's there early on. Great concept, really don't mind the "gore", which I really don't think is overdone like some suggest, same for the language, but it all gets lost with the damn politics. Quoting that idiot georgie bush like he leans a certain way? Give me a break.
