The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live: The Last Time (2024)
GREAT!!! But... a few things bring it down
So let's start off with the main problem that everyone has already mentioned. The last episode is slow but also rushed at the same time. This show needed to be at least 7-12 episodes for a fulfilling season and story arc. While still amazing, at the very least this should've been a two parter episode with an episode 7 to cap it all off.
The GOOD: The scene between Rick and General Beale was amazing. Although I wanted more of a fight scene, the dialogue and callbacks, reflection, all of it was great. It really brought just how far Rick has come into perspective which seems like a reoccurring theme with the show.
Also, Rick gets some badass moments here like killing Beale but even more so... smashing that CRM dude's face in! Not sure why he ditched the hand? That seemed like a symbolic choice but seems pretty stupid long term.
The ending! Was expecting Rick and Michonne to just arrive at the gates of Alexandria and it would end but they gave us something different and let us breathe in the moment!
THE BAD: Here's the main issues, as stated before, it's rushed. The whole "big plan" is really just getting two things and then in a quick 10 minute scene they blow everything up and then escape. Felt like such a disappointment after what we waited for.
Love Story... listen I know that's the whole point of the show, but having that being a central topic while murdering each other seems ridiculous. You can tell the story without shoving it down our throats one last time... the good ol Negan treatment.
Thorne... Such a badass character with interesting story and then.... What? What happened? Did they forget they had to put her in the last episode? She was such an after thought and only just delayed Rick and Michonne escaping a tiny bit. Would've been so cool to see her have actual development rather than just angry woman.
Walkers... really? Toss them in at the very end to briefly mess with Rick? Was hoping we'd get a variant from the smoke or like more walkers throughout the show but nope, same TWD trope. A walker shows up in establishing shots to get killed and the rest is about humans.
Lastly.... The bad side of the ending. RJ. I hate to say it but that kid is NOT an actor. My 5 year old niece could act better than him. He just stares blankly into the camera with not a single thought in his mind. Im sure he's a nice kid but.... My god did he ruin that scene with that horribly line delivery. Stick with Judith. Recast Chandler Riggs as RJ idfk. Just get this kid outta here. No hate to the actor just really don't think this is the career for him.
All in all, lots of good, some bad, wonderful show. It exceeded the hype in such a way we were disappointed when the finale fell back to normal TWD standards. Hope we get another season or more Rick in general, definitely reignited my passion for TWD universe.
Last thing, let's applaud all the writers, actors, stunt team, camera operators, hell even the interns and coffee boys. Congratulations on the long awaited return of Rick Grimes! My rating for the show OVERALL is a 9.5.
For this finale? Would be a 9 but RJ brings it down to an 8. :)
Gotham: Rise of the Villains: The Son of Gotham (2015)
Just wow, super engaging and the wheels for Bruce are finally turning
Let me say this first, this is my first watch through, I'm late to the party and I've seen stills from the finale of the batsuit but nothing else. I am LOVING this show. Penguin is the best villain that you feel bad for him most of the time. Gordon is great as always this episode and they seem to have found a good balance in his white knight side. My biggest problem thus far from this show was Bruce.
Every Bruce storyline felt weak and half assed but FINALLY we see traits in Bruce that slightly resemble those of the billionaire playboy turned crime fighter. I'm so glad he got more of a storyline this time around and that he's not as helpless. He still seems to be weak and gullible, but things are changing. Selina is okay, I wish that they used her in other storylines for now because I want to see Bruce grow into the role of Batman without her, but I'd assume when he becomes Batman, she'll just know or be helping already.
Now let's talk the big bad.... Gallavan. Unfortunately, he's the worst villain thus far. I think Jerome was the closest thing this show has had to a great villain. The only reason I don't count penguin is because he teeters on the edge and you root for him. As for our new bad guy? He's horrible. He's not scary, he's incredibly obvious when he lies and it's hard to believe he really has everyone in his back pocket and 500 contingencies for every possible outcome. His niece was more interesting because at least you couldn't tell when she was lying or not. Hope that he's taken care of soon and that a new villain can rise.
This episode in general? Incredible. From start to finish I was engaged, I gasped out loud a few times, I was fooled by Bruce and I thought the cult stuff was mildly interesting. This episode felt more like the telltale Batman game which is a huge compliment. I really hope the rest of the season keeps up with this type of episode! Definitely want to see more Barbara too, not familiar with her character in the comics but still thrown as to how she'll end up being the mother to Gordon's child!
Although I have my problems with the villain, everything else is still so good. I'll admit I was very skeptical but finally giving in and watching this show was a really good choice. I think this season is far better than the first in terms of feeling less like a cop drama and more like a show about Gotham city. You need a little camp here and there.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium (2023)
Where are Percy and Annabeth????
This is the best episode so far! A whole 2/10! I was excited for this one even with the huge failures of the last two. I thought that Medusa would save this episode but unfortunately she takes up 10% of the episode.
Now let's talk about the main problem. Percy and Annabeth. Where are they? Are they in the show? I see two actors playing characters with the same names but they sure aren't ANYTHING like the characters from the book. Annabeth has no resemblance to the character. I don't mean looks because that's been clear from the get go, instead Annabeth's whole character is dumbed down to "attitude". Percy.... Poor Percy.
Percy acts nothing like he does in the books. He has no resemblance of his character. Disney channel acting with someone who doesn't look like Percy either. His whole personality is long blocks of rambling and a little bit of attitude as well. He doesn't have a personality and neither does she.
Is Grover better? Not really. He resembles the Grover from the books personality wise. But it's like a hollow shell of his actual character.
And then... there's Medusa. Let's start off with the good, she's beautiful, she's manipulative, she seems dangerous. Now the rest.... She literally does nothing. She shows up, tells us her story and then dies. She appears like she might pose a threat and then is defeated without even the slightest bit of struggle from the characters. It would've been harder if Percy had to fight a homeless man compared to fighting Medusa.
As stated at the beginning... she takes up 10% of the runtime of the episode. Why? Because they're trying to get through each chapter of the book within 10 minutes. There's no meat here. All bones. If you've come this far and haven't read the books.... Go read those and never come back to this. You'll have a better time.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom (2023)
Bad CGI, Bad acting, Disappointment
I really had high hopes for the show. I've read every single book and all the spin offs. So unfortunate because the casting is horrible for every character, none of the kids can act better than Disney channel and the CGI goes from looking decent to atrociously bad like modern marvel projects.
I don't understand how you screw up all these side pieces so bad when they genuinely have a half decent story here. Problem is, you can't focus on the story when it feels like I'm watching little kids act for the first time. You would think they would've tried a little harder but it seems instead they let the first group of people who auditioned get the part.
Listen, I know people like this show, but it really isn't anything special. It feels like CW mixed with Disney. I hope this isn't the future of Percy Jackson. This episode full of these problems and a rushed pace... really didn't help my hopes.
Dave: Dream Girl (2023)
Dave has done it again!!
I just can't believe how far LD has come. Every season continues to amaze me with his acting, his songs and the stories that he tells. This has to be the best episode this season easily just for that scene near the end of the episode. I was tearing up the whole time. It's not as cringe worthy as season 2 but man does it pull at the heart strings. I can't stress enough that this show needs a season 4. The way he is able to poke out these flaws about himself whether real or fictional are just so dumbfounding. A critical view of a main character is something we don't see to this extent, considering most shows try to make their characters likeable the whole way through with an arc. But Dave is always learning more about who he is and the man that he wants to be. The way they touch on the his superficial side is so striking as something we've seen so much but to have it come from someone he cares so much about just really drives the point home.
Listen, I love Rachel McAdams and I would marry her in a heartbeat. But Dave is perfect for Robyn. They need to end up together because Dave has to choose between going for the girl that his idealistic self wants or the girl that his genuine self wants. We all need a girl like Robyn in our lives she's written to be such an amazing character. Amazing piece of television. Dave Burd is a genius and if he doesn't go back to writing songs for the album for a while I'd be fine with that, I'm just happy we get what we get in the show.
