Fun Movie with Lots of Fart Jokes
6 July 2022
The movie did have some solid laughs, but they really overdid it with the butt jokes and fart jokes. That just doesn't appeal to me (although I know who it does appeal to, so I'm somewhat sympathetic). Otherwise I would've given it an 8. Still, a fun short watch.

Reacher (2022– )
7/10
An Honest Perspective
8 February 2022
Despite the vast majority of reviews, Reacher is clearly not a 9 or 10, but it's not a 1 either. Here's a quick overview of the good and the bad.

The good: -Generally respects the source material in character representation and story.

-Exceptionally well choreographed and edited fight scenes (some of which are practically taken right from the pages of the book, which is cool). Perfect balance of realism and visual impact. I actually find them to be superior to many big-budget action movies, and this may be the best part of the series.

-Good cinematography, looks and feels high-budget.

-Limited political preachiness (although it's not nonexistent), which is a rarity in modern entertainment.

-The show is genuinely entertaining despite it's weaknesses, which is why I'm giving it a 7 rather than a 6.

The bad: -The acting is mediocre at best, and even some of the more accomplished actors feel wooden, which brings me to my next issue: -The writing. The dialogues are not only clichéd and clunky. They really feel the need to spell everything out for you. For example, all of the villains brag to each other about horrible things they do, make obviously racist or sexist remarks so the audience knows that they're really bad guys. You won't find an intelligent and complex villain like Gustavo Fring in this series. In summary, the writing lacks subtlety and maturity.

-The flashbacks are silly and kill the mystery behind Jack Reacher.

-Both the male and female characters sometimes have a Captain Marvelesque smugness to them and the corresponding invincibility that makes them uninteresting.

WandaVision (2021)

Terribly overrated
8 February 2021
Although I appreciate the attempt to be different, this show feels like it's entirely based on gimmicks that are used again and again. We get it: you're copying old sitcoms. You really shouldn't milk that to death in every episode.

Also, when they were talking about Captain Marvel & Scarlett Witch, it was just not only heavy-handed "women are strong" moment, but also doesn't make any sense that they would know that. I guess the characters watched the movies?

Last but not least, the multiverse stuff they just added in... That's just lazy writing, shock-factor gimmicks.

Funny without being too stupid.

I am somewhat indifferent to most of Adam Sander's movies, but this one kept me entertained from start to finish. It was somewhat simple, but enjoyable, and the acting was solid.

Pretty funny, but politically

Obnoxious left-wing politics never cease to lessen the enjoyability of Netflix's original content, but it was still somewhat enjoyable besides this.

Mediocre
15 March 2019
The movie just fell short in a lot of the most crucial areas, namely: character development, engaging storytelling, cool action scenes, believability, and "relatability".

Despite the amount dialogue generously shared in between the crew, I didn't feel emotionally interested in any one of them by the end of the movie.

The story is really engaging up until the second half of the movie when I frankly experienced a steady decrease in interest until the end of the movie.

The action was nothing particularly exciting nor original. No hand to hand struggles. Characters go through combat basically unscathed.

Overall, there are some aspects of the movie that can be I appreciate for avoiding the cliché, but it was a let down.
