Red Christmas (2016)
Brilliant Original Cheesy Christmas Holiday Flick
My son and I watch Christmas horror flicks and drink cocktails on Christmas Eve. This year we had a guest and to our mortification technical difficulties in screening our chosen film. Finally I thought Tubi will have a cheesy horror film I can cast from my phone. There was only Red Christmas and it did not disappoint. The conventions and twists within this genre were a revelation and bloody (literallly) hilarious. Original narrative, gags and ways to die. Gerald Odwyer's comic timing had me in stitches. Best I have seen since Road Games. It is Christmas Day and my son and I will be watching the director's Making Of, documentary. Love a good low budget Aussie horror film. Gold.
Downsizing (2017)
Ambush!
This film is brilliant at capturing the complexity and simplicity of mortality and being human. It's so intriguing I can almost forgive the disingenuous trailer. But then again, remember when trailers didn't reveal the whole story? This movie tackles a lot in its allotted time. It deals with the intangibles of reality. If you're looking for the goodies and baddies for moral guidance then maybe this is not the film for you. However if you like to think outside the box and are curious about alternative ways of thinking this might be the one. I will definitely revisit this film.
Hello, Privilege. It's Me, Chelsea (2019)
Sociopath
This was PR concerning her bruised ego re criticism she received over a book she wrote with a title. She started with insensitivity covered by an off colour joke (no pun) that left Kevin Hart calling her out with one look. She manipulates and obfuscates trying to cover her lack of a soul. There were so many wonderful, challenging opportunities left hanging, starting with Tiffany Haddish in the first scene. Chelsea Handler is a soulless hack and everything that is wrong with privilege, period. No wonder I never warmed to her. She's a cold fish.
Foxcatcher (2014)
This Could Be Better
I could write an essay. The movie could have run for five hours. Narcissistic Personality Disorder can take a lifetime to understand., let alone a movie. Inadequate. But how do you understand those who are understandable? I choose love but how do you defend yourself against those who choose themselves above everything and everyone else? Is this evil or just an aberration?
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019)
So Much For the Victims
This WAS a good film The victims given less than 30 seconds attention at the end. No photos, no reverence.
