Nancy Drew (2019–2023)

Nancy you Drew me in
17 October 2019
It's not the Nancy Drew if old but....I quite enjoyed it. I think the sex scene was put in to say to people look it's not Nancy Drew of old but hey nor was Sabrina the Teenage Witch and all the rest. Was it mysterious ? Yes. Was it intriguing ? Yes. Could it go on to bigger and better things? I think so. Give it a try

The Eighties were so much better than this
9 September 2019
I hate film who get the basics wrong, especially when it's from my era. There were no Wham boys in 1987, Wham split in 1986. No one was dress as Bananarama in 1987, maybe in 83/84 . Bros came out in 88, not 87....I could go on.The UK was amazing in the Eighties with a fantastic soundtrack but this film does not inspire me. It's ok but it's to cringy and not the passion it tries to be. This film really is Dancing in the Dark.

A diamond in the rough.....
16 January 2019
This is a gem of a series. To have a show filmed in the town near where I live just makes it a little more special. Why they chose South Wales when they could of quite easily made it in the usual American high school drama is unusual but I think it gives it more of a raw edge and slight different angle of things. A few things that do stand out apart from fantastic acting and storyline is that the show is set in modern times. ( Everyone has a mobile phone etc) But if they were taken out you swear this was set in the eighties. Reason being all the music is pretty much from that era. The Smiths, The Cure, Billy Idol, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Flying Pickets Aha, The The, Tim Bok Too....the list goes on ( The soundtrack is awesome) . Also the cars are from that age as well. ( You won't see one modern car ) It's strange but I love it and if anyone knows why they chose to do this please leave your answer in the trivia. This is a teen comedy/ drama that will leave you with a smile and take you back to that magical age of sixteen when sex seemed like the be all and end all of everything that mattered in life. Youth my friend is wasted on the young. Enjoy

Do you remember your first time, I can't remember a worse time....
10 January 2019
Music might change, fashion might change but teenagers don't. From a girl perspective this is a coming of age when sixteen year old girls go through the transition from giving that cherry away. I enjoyed this film but I found it was kinda stuck between should it be a comedy or a drama. It is a bit of both but I don't think it will stand the test of time . I would certainly give it a watch as Joey King is a great actress and deserve to go on to bigger and better things.

Mr Miyagi would of been proud Daniel son....

This series blew me away. It is a must watch for anyone who loved the original Karate Kid. To have the characters from the original film and come up with a very very good storyline that fit neatly into a up to date of how things panned out is a credit to all those involved in this project . Watch and enjoy....now I'm off to catch some flies with my chopsticks and wax the car .

If you are Searching for something different....
13 October 2018
There are very few films that you watch but actually drag into a one person's perspective of how things are unfolding. Very small spoiler- the father is searching for his missing daughter, but the way it is filmed with a very very clever storyline makes you feel you have been on the entire journey with the father. I physically felt the suspense, the twists, the rollercoaster the father's ordeal was going through and boy what a ride!!! A Slow burner to start with, but builds up to the finale that actually makes you feel out of breath. This film is a game changer.

Keep an Open Mind
8 October 2018
I enjoyed this film and has that Maze Runner/Hunger games vibe. By that I mean the hero comes into their own and you feel this could be a trilogy of films with a big end battle with the good vs evil scenario. Sadly this didn't do to well at the box office so I think this will be the only one, but the story is good and certainly worth a watch.

Simply the best horror movie ever made
8 October 2018
Everything is just superb about this film, the music score , the actors and the story, not many films keep you on the edge of your seat but this is what horror films should be like. A classic.

Low Budget Brit Horror... Uncomfortable viewing
7 October 2018
This reminds me of the 80's film When the Winds Blows ( Bowie did the song for it ) . But this is uncomfortable viewing that makes you feel annoyed with the characters. If you like low budget horror then watch it. But I find ( and this film is no difference) that the idea is good and intrigues you but the end cannot live up to a satisfactory conclusion.

A bit of a Blur,Sterophonics,Cocteau Twins..etc
4 October 2018
I was a teen in the 80's and watched live artists regular, Madonna, Duran Duran, Wham, Micheal Jackson etc and then in to the 90's I was watching Stone Roses, R.E.M, Pulp etc and I was expecting life to keep churning out great bands and this is where this film kicks in. In era's of great music the 21st Century and it technology has made things quite boring...Hence Modern Life is Rubbish and a lot of people watching this can see where the main character is coming from . Its a British film and a bit gritty but you feel the chemistry between the two main stars. He looks like a rock star ( dark and moody) and she is that pretty girl next door with a smile that makes your day worth while. My only problem with this film is that there are so many good songs in this film and no Soundtrack album to buy, which is a bit ironic. So watch (and listen) and enjoy.

A Slow Ride
2 October 2018
The girl is beautiful, the guy thinks he chocolate but the chemistry is lacking. Set in 1987 (were they really still breakdancing in the States in '87!!!) according to this film they were. I love 80's nostalgia films but this one is very forgettable. I have seen better street races in my supermarket carpark and the soundtrack is very weak. ( So many good songs they could of used) If you want to see a great 80's nostalgia film check out Summer of 84. Has for this film it's very average( and I'm being generous)

This film did make me laugh in places. Take your brain out and enjoy the silliness. It over the top but it left me with a smile. After all it is the season to be jolly.

Sierra Burgess is a winner
19 September 2018
Have read a lot of hype about this film because "It's not political correct" . Really some people need to get a life. The next thing we will hear is that Back to the Future is promoting incest because Marty's mum had a crush on him. Anyway Sierra Burgess is great film with a great cast. I won't spoil the story but it's just one of those better teenage high school films that hits the mark. A very worthy 8 out of 10. Enjoy

80's nostalgia movie that take you back ...a great film
18 September 2018
If you yearn for those Stand By Me, Stranger Things boy adventure movies then you wont be disappointed with this gem. It has all the classic requirements, good story, great soundtrack, suspense and good old friendship between mates that you know has that bond you only get when you are growing up with mates. I loved this type of movie that will remind you of a lot of other films but it packs all the right punches to draw you in. Grab the popcorn and enjoy.
