Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)
A worthy follow up
It seemed like an impossible task to follow up on one of the greatest trilogies of all time, but Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes does it perfectly. The new characters are amazing, especially Rakka and Proximus are iconic. The movie is beatifull, shot in amazing enviroments! It looks stunning, and the CGI is flawless. What the movie lacks to get to the hights of the Caesar trilogy is that one amazing moment. Like Caesars "NO!" scene in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The story is great and the movie looks amazing, but it just isn't as high up for me as the Caesar trilogy. But maybe that will change when we have the full Wes Ball trilogy.
Damsel (2024)
Fun watchable movie
This movie is a lot of fun, and if you just want a good time with a not complex movie, you can watch this. It has a lot of cool scenes that makes it worth a watch. The ending feels very rushed, and the characters are very flat. The movie could have used just 10 more minutes to flesh out the characters and the lore. But the movie looks good, it's an interesting setting, and music is very good. Not one of Netflix worst movies and if you feel like turning your brain of for an hour and fourtyfive minutes, this is a movie for you. It's a lot of fun, and you can tell that the director has a certain style.
Kung Fu Panda 4 (2024)
A worthy start to a new chapter for the Dragon Warrior
I had a lot of skepticism for this movie. I didn't like the trailers they put out and i think Kung Fu Panda 3 was a very satisfying conclusion to the story. But wow was i suprised. Kung Fu Panda 4 is a very good movie, that is abseloutly worth checking out.
The absence of the Furious Five is not as big of a blow as i thought it would be, and you actually don't really miss them, and it makes sence for them not to be there. The story does feel a bit to similar to Kung Fu Panda 2, and the music, no disrespect to Hans Zimmer, is a lot of the old, not really any new cool score. But when the original score hits, it hits hard! The fight choreography is amazing, the action scenes are beautiful and inventive. The movie is funny and full of heart. Our villain is cool and menacing, but not as iconic as our first three villains. Our new co-lead, Zhen, is a lot of fun and a good companion to Po. It was also amazing to see former villains return. Po's two fathers had suprisingly much screentime, which was a lot of fun. What holds this movie a bit back is the lack of deepness. The first three movies tackled some deep and complex themes, and i missed that in this movie. But it made me excited for potential upcomming Kung Fu Panda movies.
