A wonderful and entertaining "how did it happen?"
16 April 2023
Alot of people are coplaining about how this is not equated with the novel, and how this series does not reflect the time in which the story takes place. Those complainers can't have given this series the chance it deserves (wich is more than half an episode).

Me, personally, would have found another perfekt adaptation of the novel boring, we see that way to often in period dramas. It goes on and on until we have about five movies based of the same novel.

This way of thinking outside the box, and make something new, is refreshing. I found myself binge this show.

So more of this please!

But, if you really want to see a true adaptation of the novel I could recomend the 1988s version, it has all the evil, backstabbing, raping-teenage-girls themes you can muster. And some really great casting too.

This version is more of an "how did those two get to be so sinister as they are in the book?" kind of version.

And obviously takes place before the novel.

It's the same theme of storytelling that we find in 'Black Sails' which is inspired by 'Treasure Island'.

I find this series well written, whit interesting characters and storytelling. Good casting. The costuming is wonderful. And the music and sound is great.

You should really watch it.

Funny with a love-hate for musicals
13 April 2023
I liked the first season and am absolutetly loving the second.

In the first season we get some really oldy musical vibes from the 1930s to 1950s. Falling in love with no sense what so ever ... and lots of frills, pastels, and plastic trees. And what else would you want?

In the second season we find our selfs in more reasent years and musicals. Like Hair (70s) and Sweeny Todd (00s). It becomes a weird mix of the dark streets of 1800s London, the smoke filled lokales of 1920s Chicago, and all the flower-power you can handle from the 1970s (actually a bit more than that, to be frank).

The songs and dancing numbers are (at least in my opinion) well written, and well performed by the actors.

If you plan to watch this, do so with an open mind.

This is not meant to be a masterpiece. But to entertain and make us laugh.

Which I think the creators and the cast succeeds perfectly.

A nostalgic trip all the way back to the 80s
9 April 2023
Just got home from seeing this nostalgic gem at the cinema, and my dimples still hurt from laughing so hard.

This is truly a tribute to the games, the comics and the TV series from the 80s, where the co-creator of the movie is the man behind the entire game series himself. Which clearly, by the movie's rich references from everything we remember from the earliest games, is the evidence.

We got to revel in music and sound effects from the early games, and some new twists based of the comics.

From the first second to the last, I could feel the nostalgia overcoming me, my widening smile only interupted by laughter.

So if you where born in the 80s, loved playing Super Mario Bros, and enjoyed the comics, then you have to see this movie.

Kindred (2022)

A beautiful adaptation of the novel with the same name.
7 March 2023
I really liked how the novel by Octavia Butler came to life by the storytelling and acting in this series. And I can recomend anyone hwo want's to listen to watch it.

The manuscript is great, the acting superb, and the music mood setting.

When trying to describe Kindred in simple words to my friends; I did call it a scarier version of Outlander.

That it is, of course, not true.

Apart from the part with the woman who gets lost in time; these two series don't have much in common.

Kindred takes a serious subject and tells it from the point of view of a modern woman. Defiant, headstrong and resourceful, Dana (Mallori Johnson) leads us through 19th century US, and finds herself stumbling from one adversity to another.

After the cliffhanger end of season 1. All we can do now is hunker down, cross our fingers, and hope for season 2.

scary if you have the patience to wait for it
5 March 2023
I didn't read any of the other reviews before watching this show.

And am I glad I didn't! Because those guys got no patience.

If you are looking for non-stop action and the normal scantily clad power-couple that with no skills or efforts finds out that the flesh eating outher-wordly mosters can't stand salt water, or any other such nonsens, I can promise you don't have to look far to find that ... somewhere else. There are alot of that out there, and we don't need more of the same. Thank you very much.

Invasion has a slow buildup, that kind of creeps under your skin to tickle your nerves with suspense, and entices you to stick around to watch the story slowly unfold from a leisurely pace to treats of one nastiness after another.

You get to follow characters from 3 different nations, that in their own way fight to survive, get back to their loved ones, and save earth (maby).

However, all of them, I can reveal, carry a secret that may determine the future fate of the world.

I wouldn't call Invasion unique. But it has an unusual way of giving us a saga that only a series with collaboration from three different corners of the world can achieve.

I, personally, am looking forward to season 2.

When reading the nerv-wracking tetralogy by Jonathan Stroud - I always thought it would make an amazing series or movies.

I actualy dreamed of it.

That said, I find my self more than disappointed.

The manuscript can be considered as passable, to some measure. Costuming and scenery settings feels like the people behind it has given it some real work.

But all that drops dead by the bad acting, the horrible music, and the crappy animations. And I can't stress the lack of taste for what is cool and exciting... The ghosts are actualy made boring, and the fighting dorky - I guess that might be considered a real feat.

With these wonderful books as a basis, the series could have been epic. Instead we are treated to a literary pile of murder victims (the books, if you didn't get that).
