Star Trek: Discovery: Jinaal (2024)
Terrible
I've been watching Star Trek for over 50 years and I've never stopped watching a series until it was done but I'm making an exception now after watching this episode. That's it, I'm done, even frequent use of fast forward isn't enough. I don't like any of the characters apart from Book and hmm I guess that's it. Last season already sucked and now they brought back the irritating Tilly and the awful Grey. The domestic scenes of Saru and the Vulcan aren't working for me either. Overall its really boring, badly written, and over diversified. I'm really glad to hear its been cancelled. Indeed that was the best news of the past couple of hours and made me feel a bit better about the time I just wasted watching this drivel.
From (2022)
Getting boring
I enjoyed season one but so far season two is not doing it for me. There is too much drawn out interpersonal stuff and not enough reveals about their situation. As in pretty much none. I've had to start fast forwarding and will drop it soon if things don't get moving.
Oh yeah the guy who got sent to the bus? I mean communal living is one thing; but you don't go through people's personal stuff. So I'm with him on that one; though getting physical wasn't justified.
Hopefully the next episode will move things along; I'm not here for a soap opera.
Ah yes more words needed, well l like I said, hopefully the next episode will move things along.
The Last of Us (2023)
Not riveting
A bit dull overall. Episode 3 was very moving, I only fast forwarded the sex scenes at first. Then later I fast forwarded more because it was so sad; and I'm not watching this genre for gut wrenching heartbreak.
I've never played the game so its all new to me. There are not many action scenes, it makes Fear the Walking Dead seem like constant mayhem. Here you're lucky if one mushroom guy gets put down in an entire episode.
After the episode about Ellie's lesbian relationship, and considering episode 3, the show seems strangely fixated on gay relationships.
I'm sure fans of the game are super happy to see it come live on TV. I guess lots depends on if your happy with the relatively slow pace of the show.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: The Serene Squall (2022)
Yikes
Grey on Discovery was not a beloved character and well after about two minutes of the New Worlds version of Grey, I was done. Judging from the reviews I'm not missing anything.
Really hope this isn't an indication the series is turning lame.
The Orville: Shadow Realms (2022)
No longer funny and kind of soap opera like
As my title indicates, what the heck happened with this season?! So far it kind of sucks.
I guess will try another episode and see if something actually happens.
Reacher (2022)
Well done
I'm not sure if I believe this show is from 2022 because I can tell everyone's gender and the main character was cast as described in the books.
I enjoyed it. Have read every Reacher book and the actor here is generally well chosen.
Star Trek: Discovery: Stormy Weather (2021)
Season 4 train wreck resumes
After the last episode I started getting more hopeful; but this episode really put the damper on that. It's bad enough to hear the crew members always going on about their feelings; but now the ship's computer is acting like a 12 year old girl in therapy? Seriously?
I'm glad the irritating red head is gone... hopefully purple haired elf develops a sudden interest in the academy as well. (later edit - thankfully yes! Buhbye Grey).
The episode does have some cool moments; but overall the general train wreck of season 4 has resumed.
Star Trek: Discovery: Choose to Live (2021)
Bottom of the barrel Star Trek
On a positive note it was better than the previous episode, which was likely the worst episode from any Star Trek series.
I like the premise of being 1000 years in the future but the cringe worthy characters and writing ruin it. I'm having trouble thinking of one character that I like. The empress was cool but she's long gone. Now wondering if people in her universe may be better off.
Star Trek: Discovery: Anomaly (2021)
Terrible
What's going on? I had some hopes for this season... but this episode was awful. I didn't really follow what was going on and wasn't motivated to care about anything... eventually turned it off.. for the first time ever with a Star Trek episode, and I've been watching since the 70s.
Edit - read a couple of other reviews and remembered that half the show was those two characters with no gender cooing at each other (Grey needs to go... Adira is ok) But the episode still sucked even with frequent use of fast forward.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Pretty good
Read the books 20 years ago and am enjoying the series so far. Like everything coming out of Hollywood nowadays, its way too concerned about being woke. The characters generally seem ok but Egwene throws me off.
Worth checking out. I think it has potential... but then I watched all episodes of The Outpost lol..
Foundation: The Mathematician's Ghost (2021)
Yikes, what happened?
I was really into this show after episodes 1 and 2, but found episode 3 to be disappointing. They found an even older emperor and decided to make half the show about his final days? Why? It was boring AF and contributed nothing to the story. The rest of the episode was basically meandering crap which needed multiple short fast forwards to get through. Really hope this episode is an exception because I had high hope for this series.
Y: The Last Man (2021)
Trying
I'm a big fan of Diane Lane and post apocalyptic material and I am generally enjoying this... but the son, Yoric, is such a massive douche its puts you off. Not sure why the actor is playing the role like a petulant 14 year old.
The Bachelor (2002)
Ruined
Letting a bunch of 20 year old woke police push Chris Harrison out was a mistake. It's been a good run; but now its probably over.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Moderately entertaining but really stupid
- making any sounds can kill you, so you walk around with a 4 year old unwatched at the rear of your group.
- given that any sound can kill you. Lets not pull out and instead have a baby
- you'll never stop a baby from crying but they let it live anyways
- the solution to stopping the monsters is pretty simple; yet all of humanity was somehow not able to discover it before their teenager did.
The Walking Dead: Splinter (2021)
Boring
Wow the series needs to give itself a kick in the ass. Weird episode. Needed fast forward to get through the most tedious parts.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Entertaining. Tries too hard to be woke
I enjoy the show but don't really like the characters. The non binary person and especially their imaginary friend are brutal. The engineer is lame and the red head is irritating and unattractive. The doc is ok I guess... and Michael....hmm, mixed feelings. The Emperor was cool but I guess she's gone now.
Anyways the scripts and production values are generally very good and I like the whole idea of them restarting the federation in the future.
Looking forward to seeing a better crew on the new Enterprise series.
The Phenomenon (2020)
It will convince you
I'm over 50 and this documentary finally convinced me that we are being visited by others of some sort. Whether they are from another planet or the future or something else is of course undetermined.
But so many reliable witnesses as well as the captured footage is convincing. If the former Senate majority leader believes then you probably should too.
The two events witnessed by multiple children are also very convincing. There is no way you can get 20 or 30 kids to agree on a lie and flawlessly maintain the lie over decades.
They very likely have stealth technology, so the one comment that stands out is "why are they allowing themselves to be seen at all."
My guess would be to prepare us for an eventual public contact. But hey who knows. Maybe their stealth technology is unreliable :)
Tenet (2020)
Messy and incoherent
Deserves a few stars for effort and some entertaining scenes but otherwise the plot unfolds incoherently; and most of the time you don't know why the characters are doing what they are doing. It tries for some intellectual cachet but the silly plot doesn't really support that.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond: The Tyger and the Lamb (2020)
I'm starting to root for the empties
Boring and disjointed; I almost feel asleep. Might try one more episode but I don't have much hope in this.
2067 (2020)
Terrible
I liked three things about this movie:
- The first few minutes.
- Seeing Ryan Kwanten from True Blood - a few years older; but unfortunately in some lame bro role.
- When it ended.
Otherwise it sucked. Just a mishmash of crap after they travel into the future.
The last shot was really promising - then it ended.
Raised by Wolves: Mass (2020)
Disappointing change
I've really been enjoying this show; but found it changed starting with this episode. Not sure what happened, its like things are all over the place and not much makes sense. Maybe the original writer quit mid series.
Snowpiercer (2013)
Suspend your belief and enjoy
The key to enjoying Snowpiercer is to not think about the science or even the logic of Snowpiercer itself. Accept that its a thing; and then you can enjoy a really entertaining show with mostly solid acting and involving story lines.
The Vast of Night (2019)
Boring but fast forward accelerated the non ending
This will probably win an Oscar because the Academy loves art movies. But those looking for entertainment will probably be disappointed. It's excruciatingly boring and not a lot happens. The ending is a big "that's it?" followed by a feeling of gratitude about now being free to do more fun things like laundry.
The Mandalorian (2019)
Ok I guess but disappointing
Overall it was pretty boring. The helmet gets old fast, enough already. Plot pretty meh and moving along uninterestingly. Was there music? Nothing that made an impression.
Definitely hoped for more, lets see what the next one brings. 'See' is a much better new series.
Edit - gave up. Honestly don't understand the good reviews. I can see it appeal to kids.. but there's little substance here. Whatever plot may exist is poorly developed.
Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018)
Terrible
When you see reviews like this one left for this film "This is the best film I've ever seen before.. it's extremely good", you know that the rating is driven by a PR campaign.
This movie was really bad, one of the few movies I've stopped watching 30min into it. Now I love a good action movie, but this was all action and no story. Just all over the place with no interesting narrative. A mess. Definitely the worst in the series.
