Ploning (2008)
8/10
A simple yet poignant story
29 December 2008
About waiting, love, and the simple things in life, Ploning is a movie that is worth your time. It has a unique story and format which works to show the poignant effect. The setting and production are breathtaking and unexpectedly well done (set in Cuyo, Palawan, a pristine location). The acting is of course splendid, with its effective and balanced line-up of veteran and neophyte thespians (notable performances are from Mylene Dizon and Gina Pareno, aside from Judy Ann Santos' near-perfect interpretation of Ploning, the main character). It revolves around various themes and concepts like parental relations, going back to one's past and reliving it, lost love, starting anew and living a simple yet meaningful life, community culture, and many others. Ploning is a must-see for people who like learning life lessons, balanced amount of drama and a good reminder on what life (and living) is about.
