John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum: HBO First Look (2019)
Is there anything this man CAN'T do?
Another strong entry in the John Wick universe. A little more focused, more humorous and relying on multiple threats to take down the man who's proven to be the best. I think it's a strong rebound from the lull that is John Wick 2.
King Richard (2021)
The performances are rock solid
Even through the more conventional sports movie moments, what works is that it's an affecting story about family, dreams, and the undying drive it takes to be the greatest of all time.
The Blacklist (2013)
I'm hooked once again
Ever since Kate Kaplan survived the bullet to the head The Blacklist series seems revitalised and was allowed the scope explore new and exciting directions. Series 6 has started off in much the same way. The whole series is escapism at its finest and worth a look. Reddington (James Spader) has a fascinating on screen role. One of the most likable TV villains of all time.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
A fresh take on the spiderman franchise.
The outdoor action sequences are brilliantly inventive. I laughed out loud a few times when Miles was learning his skills, and when he and Peter B Parker were stuck to the elevated train. Inside the particle accelerator however, things got very muddied, so I have to take it down a half star. Otherwise, I loved it.
Fringe (2008)
It's still interesting, but not on the same class the first 3 seasons were
Despite that glaring weakness, the Fifth Season still holds some meaning in the Fringe cannon for one main reason: the characters. When all the lofty storytelling and mind-bending plots fall away, the strong characters that comprise this show still stand strong. You'll keep watching because you want to see how they all end up.
