Scoop (2006)
For the Woodie Allen fans and for the others too
The critics at Rotten Tomatoes were not good and I am glad I did not read them before renting this DVD, because the movie is very good. Woody Allen himself makes so much jokes, I will have to watch it again, just to get them all. He worked really on the dialogs, the pace, the choice of characters, etc. It is very different from a CG movie with lots of excitement without any brain. The fact it was filmed in England like the previous Match Point if good too, because we can watch beautiful landscapes and houses. All the acting is top notch. If like me you have seen a lot of Allen previously, you will appreciate this movie even more.
Morvern Callar (2002)
One of the lamest movie I have seen recently
From the beginning, I knew it would be dull; but I gave the movie a chance. I was dead wrong. The plot is very hard to believe, because the police would have investigated after her boyfriend disappeared. Also, she could not have access to the bank account and all his stuff. The movie is plainly depressing from beginning to end. They are constantly drinking and taking stuff and this stupid laughing becomes annoying. Without subtitles, I would not have been to follow the mumbling of the two girls. The music is very weird, like they are trying to keep us awake. I have seen a lot of repertoire movies in my life and I am very open; but this one is simply lame and dull.
Big Momma's House 2 (2006)
Why not take this movie lightly?
This is not Oscar stuff and people are acting like it is. Why not take the movie lightly and enjoy it? Anyone knows it would be impossible to fool someone giving massages with some fake skin, but who cares. It is the sheer nonsense of the whole movie which makes it fun to watch. The board where the activities of the day are planned by the mother is a great way to show how ridiculous our American life has become. Those parents who are the time managers of their kids should seriously think about how ridiculous they have become and how much stress they put on themselves and on their kid. There is a lesson in this movie about family values. All the actors (including the dog) are good. Just relax and rent it!
