Under the Silver Lake (2018)
Like a riddle without the punchline
While this was rather an enjoyable little 'trip', this adventure mystery romp, the ending ruined it by not giving proper closure to the story.
Like being told a joke or asked a riddle and then not being given the punchline, it leaves an unsatisfied taste in the mouth.
This seems to be happening more and more these days in films, is it a lack of talent in storytelling , a pretentious trend or just plain laziness masquerading as 'art'.
Either way it's bloody annoying.
Vox Lux (2018)
messy
I'm not sure what's going on with movies these days because I'm really struggling to find one that is well done any more. I gave this movie a chance because it had Natalie Portman and Jude Law in it. Surely it would be a professionally made show with a least a few redeeming features at worst.
The story is random, haphazard and messy. I have no idea what the writer or director is trying to say.
Although there are datelines and narration throughout to try and guide you to somewhere I had no idea where I was when I got there.
A bizarre and long string of live performances at the end to sum up the film made absolutely no sense and all the subplots and characters just stopped existing suddenly.
It seems to just be a pretentious string of interactions compiled under the guise of arty, deep, heavy, stylised story telling without any actual point at the end.
I have no idea what I just watched.
