Incredibly disappointing
1 October 2006
For the first hour, I absolutely loved this film. Norton's performance is amazing, and the movie evokes a style from the 70s. Bruce Dern's cameo role is no accident - this script could have been shot in 1972, with either Dern or Voight in the leading role.

Unfortunately, the last half just crumbles. Once Norton's true nature is exposed, the film goes berserk. Frankly, too many questions are left unanswered, and the subtle performances are lost. The pristine beauty of the opening is totally shattered.

I haven't been disappointed in a movie this much in years. Granted, the conclusion was somewhat of a given, but certainly there could have been some way to make it less predictable.

Definitely see this film, but don't expect the unexpected. Again, I cannot express just how much I feel let down by this movie.
