Nothing Sacred (1997–1998)

True-to-life Catholicism
12 February 2008
I'm pleased to see that all the comments on this wonderful series (so far) are favorable. I suppose some things were exaggerated for dramatic purposes, but this series gave a realistic view of life as is really is in urban Catholic parishes. One of the comments above claimed that the series was "condemned by the Catholic Church," and I don't think that's true. It did receive vehement criticism from Catholic traditionalists, a very vocal minority who do not necessarily reflect the thinking of mainstream Catholic priests and religious and laity.

The "National Catholic Reporter" newspaper gave strong support to this show. In almost every episode, you'll see a copy of the newspaper in some noticeable location - one of the most interesting "product placements" I've seen.

I certainly hope this series comes out on DVD.
