Good for the Family and not too cheesy

Warning: Spoilers
Today I was able to see a sneak preview of the movie the Forbidden Kingdom starring Jet Li, Jackie Chan and Micheal Angarano (Sky High and Lords of Dogtown). The movie is about a boy that magically travels to a different time and dimension where he is destined to return order to an area of chaos.

The movie is a combination of the films "A Kid in King Arthur's Court" and an older Kung Fu adventure. The movie isn't as cheesy as "A Kid..." but there are moments that are predictable. The movie itself is the dream of many men, young boys, girls and women that dream about something like this happening.

The cinematography, art direction and set design was fantastic. The beautiful combination of colors like a battle set in a field of cherry blossoms or Jet Li's white costume against a forest of green Bamboo. If you for some reason don't like the movie you will love the production aspect.

The new face to the American market Yifei Lui as Golden Sparrow was really good. She held her own in the fight scenes and as a presence in the movie next to Chan and Li. I think if this movie proves to be a big hit we will see more of her. Chan was in a better suited role for him than he has been in the last few years which made me happy. His last handful of films has not been of very good quality so it was nice to see something worthy. Li worked well and delivered his usual great show of artistry of fight scene and nice acting.

Angarano did well for himself as the protagonist of the film and I think has some great stories to tell after making this film. Even with the fact that all the scenes are choreographed he probably was beaten up on a few time with one misstep or misjudgment. Also he did do a fair amount of fighting so his training had to be long and hard.

I recommend that you find the money to go see it in theaters. It will be great for the family to watch and mostly clean with the dialog. Hope that you enjoy and drop a line once you see the film.
