Lots of laughs and adventure in a better than expected animated movie
8 September 2011
As a lover of the fairytale and of the Disney film, I sat down to watch Snow White and the Magic Mirror and found it much better than anticipated. If there was anything I wasn't entirely crazy about, it was some of the animation quality. The character designs are mostly fine, especially on Snow White, and the backgrounds have fluidity, however the colour palette occasionally looks a little flat. That said, the songs are surprisingly decent, my favourite being Snow White's when she washes the dishes, and the music is very nice and fitting while never overpowering. The story is timeless with plenty of adventure and the characters are great with Snow White beautiful albeit with a personality, the queen suitably evil, the dwarfs adorable and the magic mirror hilarious, but the revelation was the writing which was constantly very funny and witty. I especially loved the Burger Queen jokes, which more than made up for the one scene that didn't work for me, the part where Lenny and Snow White fake her death where her voice actress' delivery was too airy and forced to be believable. Overall, a good and better than expected animated movie. 8/10 Bethany Cox
