Blood Creek (2006 Video)
2/10
Very cruddy

Warning: Spoilers
A handful uniformly annoying and unappealing young adult campers decide to check out a backwoods area known as Blood Creek to confirm if stories about the place being haunted have any basis in truth. Guess what happens next? Writer/director Sean Cisterna, working from an overly blah, talky, and by-the-numbers formulaic script by Robert Lazar, crucially fails to generate any true tension or spooky atmosphere and allows the uninvolving story to plod along at a painfully sluggish pace. Worse yet, Cisterna uses an off-putting hopped-up style that's far too clumsy and self-conscious to work for a minute (the excessive use of sudden jump cuts is especially grating). But it's the incredibly hateful and insufferable characters who completely sink this flick: We've got the obnoxious toolbag bully, a surly sarcastic slacker dude, a hopelessly unfunny "comic relief" nerd, and a trio of bitchy gals with all the charm of a ten pound bag of fresh green snot. One quite simply has zero sympathy for these deplorable individuals and wishes that each and every last one of them would suffer a brutal and protracted death. The generic ooga booga music, overly bright cinematography, and tiresome fake scares don't help matters any. It takes seemingly forever for something remotely exciting to happen and by the time these kids finally start to get bumped off in the last reel one is well past the point of caring. An absolute wash-out.
