is the movie really THAT good?

Warning: Spoilers
I've seen PK last month and it's not a bad movie but i do believe that some are exeggerating and creating an unnecessary hype. I like the way it was directed ( style wise) and i enjoyed some scenes where satire or sarcasm was ever present. The way the director brought out his eventual ' message ' is praiseworthy. However, I expected more overall. If one is familiar with India and it's society then it might not be a refreshing movie for that person. This isn't the first movie where the motives of following a religion and the way it's eventually practiced is been questioned indirectly. I'm not going to refer to the movie ' OMG ' because i've seen at least 10 bollywood movies where religion played a huge part. We all know the famous dialogues of Nana Patekar questioning the Indian society and the way SOME people in that society treat each other. There have been many movies trying to decrease the amount of prejudices in the Indian society. I expected something different. One might say that i expected a new recipe but instead i got a plate full of 'cliches'.

Another dissatisfying point for me was the end of the movie. The whole issue with the letter was very, and i shall repeat myself, very PREDICTABLE. By filming it one could already guess the importance of such an irrelevant figure ( the other girl at the church). It's as if the writers were forced to end the movie in such a fashion that the Indian ' massala ' audience could leave the theatre with satisfaction. That is at one hand understandable but it was still very poorly written. It gave me the impression that the writers were out of ideas.

It's not a bad movie though and it's still worth watching but i question those people who have made this movie look like it's a philosophical lecture. Perhaps i've set the bar too high for cinema in general but once you've seen a movie like Rashomon, which did had a philosophical thought behind it, your perception of cinema will be different from the mainstream audience.
