Pleasantly Surprised
7 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I saw "Smurfs:The Lost Village", starring the voices of Demi Lovato-Most know her as a singer but she was also in Glee_tv, Barney & Friends_tv; Rainn Wilson-The Office_tv, Transformers:Revenge of the Fallen; Mandy Patinkin-Homeland_tv, Chicago Hope_tv and Julia Roberts-Mother's Day, The Mexican.

I was asked by several people, why was I going to see the Smurfs? Actually, I wasn't in a big hurry to see it. I wanted to see another movie-Going In Style-but the Smurfs had an earlier starting time and I only have time to see one movie on Fridays before I have to be at work at 2:00 pm. I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised. Most people usually have fond memories of the 1980's cartoons but then, they mixed live-action with animation for the 2 movies-in 2011 & the sequel in 2013, both starring Neil Patrick Harris-and many people were disappointed. This movie is more of a reboot and it is fully animated. Demi voices Smurfette, the only female Smurf in the Smurf village. Mandy voices Papa Smurf, who is pretty much the Smurf in charge. Rainn voices the villainous wizard, Gargamel, who has dastardly plans for the Smurfs. When a map surfaces hinting at a hidden village in the forbidden forest that just might be home to other Smurfs, Demi and 3 Smurfs go in search. What they find is more than they could have imagined. Julia voices the leader of the lost village. There is a scene just as the end credits start but there is nothing at the very end. It's rated "PG" for some mild action and rude humor and has a running time of 1 hour & 29 minutes. If you are a fan and you were a little disappointed in the last movie, I think you might be surprised. I am not a big Smurfs fan myself but I enjoyed it enough that it would make a good rental.
