Anne with an E (2017–2019)
7/10
It would be a good series if you hadn't seen the Megan Follows version and haven't read the books.

Warning: Spoilers
As a Canadian, you sort of grow up with this celebrated story. The first I heard of Anne of Green Gables was a reading in Elementary school back in the early 80's, then as a play several times over the years.

This version of Anne of Green Gables is more of an interpretation of the books. There are snippets here and there that are directly from the original, but there is a heck of a lot of filler that L. M. Montgomery never wrote, and...

**** SPOILER ****

I'm not sure if it's exactly a spoiler, but the content of the new series is darker and more mature than anything that was in the original books. There are just so many major things going on in this new series that weren't even mentioned in the books that it feels like too much of a departure, and I wonder if it's not been done on purpose so they can draw it out into multiple seasons.

If you haven't seen the 80's / 90's version of Anne of Green Gables (Megan Follows version) do yourself a favour and watch it first. It stays amazingly true to the tone of the books and the characters are so well cast it's hard to imagine anyone else in the roles.

If you have never heard of Anne of Green Gables and haven't read or seen any other production, then you probably will enjoy this one, but if you know the books or the earlier shows, it may be hard to accept the differences in the characters.
