Good comeback by Salman Khan after forgettable Tube light
23 December 2017
In 2012, Salman Khan and Kabir Khan collaborated for the spy-action thriller Ek Tha Tiger. The movie did boasted some great action sequence, especially the first scene, but disappointed overall. Come forward to 2017, Abbas Ali Zafar took over the reign and makes it even larger and better.

Based on true events when a group of Indian nurses cheated death in ISIS captivity in Iraq, Tiger Zinda Hai tells the semi-fictional story of partnership between RAW (Salman Khan) and ISI (Katrina Kaif) agent who were involved in the extraction process.

From the director of decent Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and superbly made Sultan, Abbas Ali Zafar knows what is expected out of Salman's fan and he gives what the audience wants. Salman Khan is always known for his grand opening scene but the one in Tiger Zinda Hai disappoints big time. It is is pretty larger-than-life and stunts are way too shabby to believe. Imagine, you are fighting with packs of wolves and you don't even encounter a scratch on your body. Anyways, the opening scene of Katrina Kaif was still better and she pulls it off quite impressively. The movies takes some time to build story and once the Tiger team is formed, it is race against time (as US Air Force plans to take down the entire place where the nurses are kept as hostage within 7 days). Second half boasts off some great action sequence especially the well-executed climax scene with shower of patriotism to raise your spirit.

The movie does it have its share of flaw as well. The film is way too long and should have been trimmed for most of the scenes. Thankfully, it has only major song "Dil Diya Gallan" which is beautiful and has been well-shot. The screenplay is shabby and could have been strong ( I would give an example of Baby which has same premise). Direction wise, I was little disappointed as I had strong expectation from Abbas Ali Zafar after his well-made Sultan. On the other hand, Art Direction and Cinematography is simply superb. Hats off to the action director for well-choreographed stunts. Performance wise, none of the supporting actors were able to make presence felt including Paresh Rawal even though it was a Salman Khan movie. The good thing is that it was good comeback by Salman Khan this year but I still feel he could have emoted expressively in few scenes. Same goes for Katrina Kaif who does a great job in the fight sequence but is wooden in her expressions.

Nevertheless, Tiger Zinda Hai will keep you engaged throughout with some spellbinding action scenes. Decent 2.75/5
