Review of Peranbu

Peranbu (2018)
7/10
Great attempt but flawed

When it's good it's great but then there are parts which almost ruins it. Like Ram's previous movie Taramani, this one also has several things that he thinks as progressive but ends up being the representation of the patriarchal societies conditioning. But a lot of it does work and goes on to new grounds that are not explored or represented in Indian films let alone Tamil films. The first hour was the most problematic for me. A better-edited cut with better use of music would be a much better film, toning down some of the aspects and focusing on some other aspects.
