The Paper (1994)
7/10
Paper run by and all-star cast

I've only watched a few newspaper movies and they've all been quality movies: "The Mean Season," "Shattered Glass," "Kill the Messenger," and the best of them all, "All the President's Men." "The Paper" delves more into the nuts and bolts of running a newspaper. It focuses on more than just the journalists who get the lion's share of the attention. It's funny, engaging, and socially relevant--all things I appreciate in a movie.

The movie centers around Henry Hackett (Michael Keaton), the metro editor of the New York Sun. He is juggling a pregnant wife (Marisa Tomei), a job interview with the New York Sentinel, a bunch of demanding employees, and a big story that may not be what it seems. Connected characters are Bernie White (Robert Duvall), the managing editor, and his nemesis Alicia Clark (Glenn Close), who is yet another layer of management between Henry and Bernie.

The pace is frantic, and it can get overwhelming at times, but the movie backs off at just the right moment. It's too bad that newspapers are all but dead.
