Review of MASK

MASK (1985–1986)
5/10
Honest review of M.A.S.K

Warning: Spoilers
M-M-MA-MASK . That song is still stuck in my head. Anyways let's get to the review.

Storyline: 6/10

The storyline is pretty simple and formulaic. Basically in short It's basically M.A.S.K (stands for MOBILE ARMORED STRIKE KOMMAND (And yes with a K) Lead by Multi-billionaire Matt Trakker) trying to defeat another organization V.E.N.O.M. Which V.E.N.O.M sometimes is just run of the mill buffoons or are actually pretty dark. But there is nothing in between. It's just buffoonery or evil geniuses. Which is a problem. And in season 2 they just turn into a racing team somehow. The good thing about the storylines though is that they are relatively interesting and since they are Indiana Jones style treasure hunts. It ages better than lots of other shows from this time.

Writing: 4/10.

The writing is OKAY. However it does have some issues. It does not explain lots of details like how the masks work and the characters don't have a backstory to them. Because like other 80s shows it just jumps right into the action. Also how the mask deploy sometimes is nonsensical like during a battle the helm- I mean masks descent from the headliners of their cars. Above their heads. And other issues with the writing. It's a definitely a weak point of this series.

The animation: 5.6/10

It is very consistent for its time. and is done pretty well. However, it's a bit choppy and sometimes the backgrounds can get a little rough at times. But most of the time it's decent enough.. The backgrounds and animation are pretty well drawn. The effects look OKAY. The animation is also pretty detailed and is nice to look at mostly. But it still has some problems and errors.

Voice acting: 5/10

The voice acting is hit or miss. Some of the characters have good voice acting. But some have bad voice acting. This is mainly Scott. He sounds very unpleasant...

Biggest problem:

T-Bob And Scott. These characters are almost unwatchable. They are very annoying and obnoxious. Scott has unpleasant voice acting and is annoying and T-bob is his even more annoying sidekick with slightly better voice acting than Scott. These characters also make very cringy puns and gags. Scott and T-bob are both in every episode and they both VERY RARELY stay out of the way. Scott's misadventures Get our heroes embroiled to go scrape after scrape with venom. these characters are very horrible to watch.

Toyline. 10/10

This is a bias. But the toys were pretty awesome.

Soundtrack: 6/10

The soundtrack is pretty decent. But the theme song is excellent. It is very catchy and gets you hyped up for the show.

Educational Value (For Parents) 2/10

This is not designed to be an educational series. This shouldn't matter very much to most parents. But it does to some. this show does not have any educational value to it besides the end of episode PSA's. This factor also does not take points from the review like others do.

Enjoyment as a kid: 9/10

Back when I was the target audience I enjoyed this show way more. I still enjoy some things about it. But when I was a kid I LOVED this show. This show is recommended for It's target audience.

More flaws:

Ridiculous cartoon logic. I ask: Why does Matt Trakker always put his kid (Scott) in danger? And who is Scott's mom? How do the masks work? And many more.

Conclusion:

Mask does have a few flaws. But it has some clever elements and relatively interesting storylines. It also has some more good things about it. But it also has Lots of issues as well.

Advice:

Is it recommended for children 5-12? Yes.

Is it recommended for adults who are nostalgic for these types of shows? Yes.

Is it recommended to the average adult who did not grow up with this type of stuff? No.

Advice: Recommended.
