Wynonna Earp (2016–2021)
7/10
great second season
10 April 2021
Wynonna Earp (Melanie Scrofano), a descendent of Wyatt Earp, returns to her home town of Purgatory after three years to attend her uncle Curtis' funeral. It's her 27th birthday. The troubles are starting up again. She retrieves the Wyatt Earp gun from the bottom of the well where she threw it when she was 12. She continues the family tradition of fighting revenants, resurrected outlaw demons from hell. She is assisted by Deputy Marshal Xavier Dolls (Shamier Anderson) from the Black Badge Divison, Doc Holliday... yes that Doc Holliday (Tim Rozon), and her younger sister Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley). Favorite hangout is Shorty's Saloon. Bobo Del Rey is a leader of the revenants. Willa Earp is a long-lost sister. Nicole Haught is a deputy. Randy Nedley is the sheriff.

The first season has a bit of bite. One gets a sense of the sarcasm and irreverence. The low budget does keep it from taking off but it does gather a fun set of characters. The show takes off during the second season. The Scooby gang is more settled and the story gains an urgency. It culminates with a great season-ending climax. A pregnant Scrofano does some excellent work. The show manages to stay on the air as it struggles to maintain its quality. It keeps losing characters like the great villain, Bobo Del Rey. It eventually runs out of steam but at least, the main characters are able to get some resolutions.
