When orsen welles (Liev Schreiber ) comes up with the story of William Hearst's (William Cromwell) weird, wacky, lush personal life, it doesn't go over well. It will expose Hearst's affair with film star Marion Davies ( Melanie Griffith), and anger his wife and friends. Co-stars Malkovich, Roy Scheider, and others, playing all the hollywood bigshots, like Mayer, Disney, Zanuck, Selznick, Mankiewicz. So many big names. Clearly, the writer was larger than life, and the film does its best to convince how wild and zany he was. And we DO get a sense of how much trouble this story getting out might really cause. It's pretty good. Directed by brit Benjamin Ross.
