Review of Jack & Jill

Jack & Jill (1999–2001)
6/10
Another show that made the 1999/2000 WB season so good.

You can read it like a sitcom. The tone is so light and the drama is never condescending or too socially aware. Just the way it should. 90s shows were to the point and entertaining. You may cringe at some of the quirkiness, but the sarcastic tone always takes over. It was like a romantic comedy turned into a TV series. Too short lived to really get into it, unfortunately. But this is another one of WB's occurrences, when they seemed to have been cancelling all the great shows in their lineup, to fit some kind of quota. Thankfully it has everything that made their shows so good, still. Normally looking actors, with characters easy to relate to. That dreamy big city setting, where you feel like you're part of their world. And episodes, quotes or music moments that will stick with you forever. The music team did a terrific work selecting songs for this series, by the way. And using ones that were already broadcasted in other popular movies and TV shows, in a way that fits the atmosphere of the show perfectly. It would be a shame some cheap DVD/streaming release erases this. It's available to watch online, and I can only recommend this to any fans of shows like Friends and Felicity. And some of the actors, of course. Mainly Amanda Peet and Ivan Sergei.
