Don't be fooled by Emmy nominations
21 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Just here to check if anyone's had their mind changed about coming back to this after a bunch of Emmy nominations... Other than Jonathan Majors and Michael K Williams, no they were not deserved. This show is not good. Starts out as an interesting concept, a thrilling mix of racist persecution and otherworldly monsters, but this quickly is revealed to be far too much for the writers to handle. The core narrative, that our lead is trekking across the hellish landscape to find his father (which he does in like episode 2) loses traction and the storyline falls into disarray. The direction is all over the place, the variety of mysticism is unimaginative and the ending is disappointing. I'm glad it was cancelled, and I don't know how it was nominated for so many awards... ridiculous.
