...document your travels - and then present them as some random slide show. Into the inferno, arguably, boasts some of the most dramatic footage ever captured. Unfortunately it also boast some of the worst cutting ever performed.

This could have been one of the most captivating documentaries ever made. In the hands of Costeau or Attenborough - it probably would have been. Unfortunately, it is not. With a total disregard for structure and drama Werner Hertzog manages to derail what could have been an epic documentary.

Instead of luring us into a spectacular crescendo of, boiling, spitting, radiant lava - Into the inferno starts there. Twenty minutes in - we have some of the most spectacular cinematography ever captured on film. No build up, no anticipation and a very wasted potential climax.

It would be fascinating to see this, extraordinarily dramatic footage cut/edited by someone skilful in the art of storytelling. As it stands - the sensation of wasted opportunity is almost as great as that of awe.
