Nature of Love (2020 TV Movie)
4/10
Love and glamping
7 April 2022
There were four Hallmark Spring Fling films from 2020, 'Just My Type', 'You're Bacon Me Crazy', 'Fashionably Yours' and this. Of the four, to me 'Just My Type' was the only one that was above average (though the next two were more mixed feelings than dislike). Have liked Emilie Ullerup and Christopher Russell in other things, with Ullerup being the more consistent one of the two, and the premise was quite cute if unoriginal. Have come though long ago to not expect originality from Hallmark.

'Nature of Love' to me is the worst of the four 2020 Spring Fling films. It is not terrible as such and Hallmark definitely did far worse that year ('Romance in the Air', 'Follow Me to Daisy Hills', 'Falling for Look Lodge'). It also did better, such as 'Wedding Every Weekend', the only above good Summer Nights entry that year, and was pleasantly surprised by some of the Countdown to Christmas films ('Five Star Christmas'). 'Nature of Love' had its moments, but is pretty mediocre.

It's not a complete flop. The supporting cast do a nice job with what they're given, and they deserved more and better. The music has pleasant moments.

Best thing about 'Nature of Love' is the scenery, which is absolutely gorgeous. The beautiful photography complements it very well.

However, there is a lot wrong here. Both Ullerup and Russell underwhelm. Especially Russell, who appears to be sleepwalking and is too introverted and too much of a poser. Ullerup is more animated, but tries too hard with the facial expressions (usually don't have a problem with her on this front) and it was hard to look past her character's stupidity and naivety. Do agree with people regarding their severe lack of chemistry, it just looked very awkward and under-rehearsed.

Found myself struggling to connect with all the characters, none of them are developed that well and all the character flaws are over-written. The dialogue has so much cheese it is enough to make one cringe and the conversations between the two leads were so unnatural. The story is too much like a very fatigued re-tread, not just the recycled Hallmark cliches but also the premise is very seen it all before. The pace is pedestrian as is the direction.

Sadly, on the whole this didn't do much for me sorry to say. 4/10.
