It's a decent kids film. Better than many. But nothing special. Sonic is annoying, Tails is cute, Knuckles adds another dimension to the story. Too much talk about "family". Good production values, "comedy" set piece scenes (messy house-sitting, dance battle) are neither cringy nor excellent. Funny wedding sequence (more for the parents). James Marsden doesn't have much of a role.
Jim Carrey is the best thing about this. Brings a twisted, silly energy to the role of Eggman/Dr Robotnik.
I watched with now-teenage children who had enjoyed the original two years ago. They're probably a bit old for it now. There were a variety of younger children in the cinema as well and I didn't get the sense they were that engaged either.
You won't regret buying tickets. But you won't regret not buying tickets either.
