Review of Oopiri

Oopiri (2016)
10/10
Must Watch Feel Good Movie
15 May 2022
Oopiri is one of the better remakes we have. I have not seen Intouchables so I can't comment how well it was adapted. But I love this movie for what it is. I am a sucker for feel good films and this movie just checks all the boxes: charismatic leads, a fun romance plot, a few scenes which make you tear up a bit, a fun color pallette. It's got it all.

I loved Nagarjuna in this movie. He is a good actor and was able to show that in this film, he gave a very nice performance despite being left in a wheelchair for the whole movie. A lot of subtle expressions that make you feel emotional, angry, and laugh. Karthi is another gem in this movie, honestly I became a fan of Karthi in Tamil industry after this movie. He is so charismatic and a bomb to watch on screen. I still quote some of his and Prakash Raj's lines. He is truly the soul of the film and I can't imagine anyone else in this role.

The production values are great although the flashback scenes look quite choppy and the green screen is obvious. But apart from that it was a beautiful film and color pallette which worked for the movie.

The music is wonderful and meaningful. It's a soulful film which shows us human values and the journey of a convict out on parole and how his encounter with a disabled rich man redefines his outlook on life and the value he gave to money. It also upholds how one should not be insecure of themselves and let their weaknesses prevent them from pursuing their desired. A beautiful movie and story.

Overall, one of my favorite feel good films and comfort watches.
