Review of Hollow

Hollow (2021)
10/10
Delicious "Hollow" left me truly full up!
18 May 2022
I watched "Hollow" back when it was initially named "Wyvern Hill" and still had the completely scrumptious poster art by Mark Stewart. As an independent Horror fan and British film buff who worked in Dementia Care as a specialty back in the day, I was chomping at the bit for a film that served up all three of these subjects on the same plate. Johnathan Zaurin does this perfectly.

Set against the lush green and hauntingly beautiful background of Herefordshire, I could almost smell the mist and drear of my former homeland and shivered with delight and pulled my cardigan tight around me as the story of Beth and her family unfolded so deeply and darkly in front of my eyes. The Cinematography was sweeping and the colors made my eyes happy. I ate each sequence up with a spoon.

The mystery and anticipation coupled with the astounding soundtrack by Michael Sanchez swept me up and forward into a dizzying nightmare of broken brain illness and tangled memories of the past and an all to real monstrous threat.

Pat Garret as Beth is so vulnerable and real, she is all of our Mummies and Nannies swirled together and I truly hurt for her watching her journey through this confusing and mesmerizing turn of life. Brilliant portrayal.

The rest of the ensemble, are just as authentic pulling together in a very genuine way to bring us an original and terrifying tale. Such pathos! Talented bunch!

This is one of my very favorite films ever. I cannot understand the negative reviews on here from folks who seem to have watched an altogether different film. They are wrong. Give this one a watch. Bathe in the beauty and colors and swim in the music and feeling. Oh, and be careful... There's a killer on the loose and it's bloody wonderful.
